We will harness the reporting power of this class to produce a larger, multimedia feature that will capture how New York-area millennials feel about the presidential election campaign. Each student will be responsible for getting reaction from ONE person who falls within the millennial-age range — roughly from 20s to early 30s. Each of you must collect very specific information so that we have consistency across all interviews. These are the things:
- Photo of the person being interviewed. These photos work best when taken outside on the street or at a location that puts the person in some kind of context (place of business, campus where he or she is studying).
- Audio of a brief interview. Everyone should ask the same questions so, again, we get continuity. You will use your smartphone to collect the audio. Here are the questions that you will ask:
- What are your thoughts about how the presidential campaigns have unfolded so far?
- Among the Republican candidates, who do you like – and who don’t you like, and why.
- Of the Democratic frontrunners, who do you trust the most – and why?
- How are you getting your news about the campaign?
3. Pertinent information about your interview subject — Full name, age, borough or hometown and occupation.
You will bring your photo and audio clip to class on Monday, Sept. 28, and we will use class time to edit audio, size photo and post to stand-alone blog that I will have set up by that day.
