Summer Colors in Winter
Suzy Menkes wrote an article about the changing style of winter coats in The New York Times on October 14, 2013, called “The Coats of Many Colors.” This new style of coats started off in an autumn runway for Céline as a pink coat, which has now become a trend. Black is no longer the only appropriate color for winter coats. These coats are many different colors including coral, turquoise, mustard, and asparagus green. None of these colors give off a dark or cold feeling, like normal winter coats do. Some designers are adding decorations to their coats, such as Burberry, which came out with a coat with hearts all over it. Because of these new colors, these coats seem to be between-season wear. The way the coat fits is also changing along with the color, which makes these new coats both masculine a bit, due to their shape, and feminine, due to their color.
