I found Passing to be really interesting. In a world where you are judged by being black or white, there are also people who are mixed-race that belong in this middle (grey area) who are also judged and confused by where they belong or fit in. Clare is a mixed woman who is able to “pass” as white because she has very light features. It made me think about the difficulties she internally faced because of her background. In the movie Clare seems to struggle to find where she belongs. There sure are benefits associated with pretending to be a white woman but then there is also that longing for childhood memories and culture that Clare holds near and dear to her heart that she has had to suppress for so long. While she seems to be living the ideal life she isn’t genuinely happy.
