Summer 2025 Quant Workshops

Dear Students,

Please use this form to register for a two-part “Math Refresher” workshop series.  The workshop is open to all Marxe students, but should be of special interest to incoming students.

The workshop is brought to you by the Quantitative Student Support Department, which offers graduate tutoring services, creates helpful review workshops, and generally provides math/quant-based support for students in the Marxe School.

In this two-part series, we will review some key mathematical concepts that will aid you in your studies and beyond. Topics include: decimals, fractions, percentages, scientific notation, probability, and an introduction to statistics.

All sessions will be held on Zoom and all times are EDT/EST (i.e. current New York City time: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/est-to-utc-converter ).

• Thursdays : 6 PM – 8 PM
• Saturdays / Sundays: 10 AM – 12 PM (noon)

(Note: students should select only one Part I session and one Part II session)

Registration: reg. form link

Full Calendar: wkshp_calendar_summer_25

Workshops will be held throughout July-August.

A breakdown of the workshop

• There are two parts, Part I and Part II, which occur on two separate days. Students should register for both parts. Hence, students should select only one Part I session and one Part II session– a total of only two days.
• In-depth review notes, Powerpoint slides, videos and more provided to students at the Quant Support Blog:

https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/marxequantsupport

Goals and expectations

• Students should not expect to remember/learn/absorb all the material just by attending these two workshop sessions.
• Instead, they should view these workshops as simply a quick guide to point them in the right direction. They may reveal topics that will take time to study independently.
• Furthermore, many resources will be available to help students throughout the semester. For more information, please visit Marxe’s Students Resources page:

Spring 2023 Workshops

For the Spring 2023 semester, workshops will be offered on selected Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

The MATH REFRESHER series is for all students who wish to review fundamental math concepts and/or prepare for statistics and economics courses. It covers material that is also found in a particular introductory workshop for incoming Marxe students. Topics include: decimals, fractions, percentages, scientific notation, graphing, and probability.

The STATS PREP series is focused on quant/stats concepts found in Data Collection and Description (PAF 9270), the first course in the research methods sequence. As such, it serves as preparation for more statistically focused classes. Topics include: variables, crosstabs, correlation vs regression, sigma notation, measures of central tendency, standard deviation, and an intro to Excel and other stats software.

The STATS SIMPLIFIED series is designed for students who are currently taking statistics-based courses or who wish to review material from past statistics courses. Relevant PAF courses include 9271, 9272, 9177, and more. Topics include: variables, the normal distribution, p-values, statistical significance, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing

The EXCEL & STATS SOFTWARE workshop series is a great complement to the STATS SIMPLIFIED series. It takes a closer look at the software– Stata, SPSS, Excel used within such courses, and highlights how to use these programs to make calculations and analyze data. Topics include: pivot tables and Vlookup in Excel, the pros and cons of Excel/Stata/SPSS, performing various stats procedures like hypothesis testing with different software
