Personal Reflection on ART 3041

This course, ART 3041 (also known as MGT 4093–it’s complicated) is all over the place. Do not be fooled by the humble title “Three Dimensional Digital Design” as this class is so much more than just a design class. This course has taught me about 3D design, the maker movement, 3D printing, product development, ideation, entrepreneurship, coffee and more. It has been an enjoyable whirlwind and the ride is not yet over as the semester ends in around a month and a half. My favorite part of this class so far has been the ideation involved. Ideation is simply the process of generating ideas. Through the Jump Start workshops, my ability to ideate has improved. This newfound skill will benefit my career and my journey as a newly christened maker. It’s also fun, embracing the inner child-imagination stuff. Plus, not to gloat, I have a knack for it. I would consider ideation to be one of my strengths in this course. In my group I tend to be the idea guy. I’m also the only guy in my group, but you get the point.

Not all praise though for ART 3041. Be prepared to do a lot of work. A LOT. I have never spent so much time outside of class for a class since being enrolled in this class. Fine, I’m being a bit harsh. With all the material this class teaches, it would be impossible to not have to do all of this work. The discussion posts relate to the maker movement as makers talk and share via the internet. The 3D design assignments are self-explanatory. This blog? I don’t really know. Point being the work will help you, so do it, and love it, because I do.
