Loss is a constant reoccurring theme in Frankenstein. The Frankenstein family experiences several losses throughout the book such as Frankenstein’s mother and the younger brother. As well as Elizabeth on their wedding night and his friend. This sense of loss seems to spur Frankenstein’s desire to resurrect the dead as well as the sense of revenge he later carries. However loss is not only experienced by Frankenstein but by his creation as well when he loses the Delaceys when they rejected him. Frankenstein’s constant rejection of his own monster is an ever heartbreaking loss to him with him begging Frankenstein to “How can I move thee?” The monster is completely bereft at the final loss of Frankenstein and mourns his own actions towards his creator and how he was never accepted by him.
