For my final video assignment I have two ideas:
- I would be interested in making a video about a Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym and interview the instructors and students about the impact Martial Arts has had on their life. I think it would be visually interesting to see the instructors teaching class and the students learning and practicing moves with cuts of the professional instructors using the moves they teach in past professional fights. I could possibly ask about a highlight in their career or a particular move they would often use and then cut it between videos of them doing it in the past and videos of them doing it now.
- My second idea would be to do a documentary on this senior woman, Sue Ann, that lives in my building. I often see her coming to the backyard of the apartment building with water and food for the cats that pass through during the day or walking around the neighborhood with a tote bag full of bread. In brief conversations I have had with her she has mentioned that she used to be an actress and traveled a lot growing up. I would like to interview her about how she ended up where she is today and what some pivotal moments in her life have been. I would use the audio as background of me filming a day in the life of Sue Ann e.g. setting water for the cats, boiling tea, and going to the grocery store. ALso, I could possibly display old photos and/ or objects that she has kept throughout the years and hear the stories behind them.
