Getting to Full Text Via Google Scholar

You probably already know that if you use the link to Google Scholar on our databases page, even if you are off campus, you can force Google Scholar to display a “Find Full Text at Baruch” link next to items on your search results page:

Sometimes, though, the link for “Find Full Text at Baruch” isn’t there to the right of the article record, as is the case for the article “Why Ravens Share” from American Scientist seen in this screenshot.

Google Scholar--when there is no find full text at Baruch link

The article record does seem to suggest that full text is on JSTOR, but as it turns out we don’t have access to it there. We do in fact have access to it from two different EBSCO databases. Here’s the secret to how to find that out.

After you click “All 2 versions,” you see two different listings for the same article, the second of which has the link we want:

LexisNexis Academic offers latest GMI ratings on companies

While doing some company research recently, I realized that Lexis-Nexis Academic, a database available through the Newman Library, offers the most recent GMI ratings on companies, including environmental, social, governance, litigation, and accounting-related risk indicators.

Two ways to locate the ratings are: Select GMI Ratings in the Source Directory on Lexis-Nexis Academic (listed in the databases on the Newman Library homepage)  and then search by the company names or ticker symbols that you need.  The ratings report  will be listed for each company.  The second way, is to search by ticker or company name in the “Get Company Info” box.  In the left column of results, click Analyst Reports.  The GMI Rating, if there is one, will be listed.  Click on the link for the full report.  Lexis-Nexis offers an explanation of the ratings, including the date, which is the date that rating was published.

One may access Lexis-Nexis Academic off campus and on as a Baruch student, faculty or staff.  Other CUNY libraries have access to Lexis-Nexis Academic.

The  Newman Library also has GMI ratings, available for a number of years and indicators, through the WRDS databases.  However, the coverage we have available through WRDS does not include the environmental, social, litigation and accounting-related risk factors.  Some accounting and governance information is available through WRDS.  Access to WRDS through the Newman Library is limited to current Baruch students, faculty and staff.

New Find It Button for SFX Service

Today, the CUNY Office of Library Services released an updated version of the “Find It” button. This is what the old button looked like:

Here’s the new button:

If you happen to see the old button in a database, please let me know what database it was so I can fix it.

If you have any comments about the new button, please append them here as a comment to this blog post so I can share them with the SFX Committee that I’m on. At the end of the summer, CUNY OLS will take a look at the SFX stats across CUNY to see if use of SFX went down at all as compared to last summer (if they have, then the committee will advise CUNY OLS about further tweaking of the button).

Mergent Horizon and Mergent Online

The Mergent Online database now includes portions of Mergent Horizon (there is now a tab for it) . Until recently, Mergent Horizon was on its own site; now it is moving over to Mergent Online. All the content and functionality that was on the old Mergent Horizon platform isn’t on Mergent Online but will be soon. When the dust settles on this, expect an update on the reference blog.
