JSTOR Institutional Finder pilot program
We have signed up for JSTOR’s institutional finder pilot program. This will help our users access content we have access to, in an authenticated manner, even if they are not coming from our database page. This is how it works (from JSTOR):
1. A Baruch College user arrives on a JSTOR article page from a Google search or other referring page
2. An on-campus user will get automatic access to the full-text, but users outside of the Baruch College IP range will be denied access
3. When denied access to the full-text, the user is presented with some options for accessing JSTOR including a link to the JSTOR login page and the Institution Finder ( http://www.jstor.org/action/showLogin ).
4. From there they can search for their institution and follow a link to the Baruch College proxy login page
5. After logging in they are authenticated to JSTOR and will be automatically redirected to the original full-text article.
This should help with the many users who find JSTOR content on the web and then do not know how to get access to its content. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
JSTOR early content
As you may have heard, JSTOR recently made its journal content published prior to 1923 in the United States and prior to 1870 elsewhere freely available to anyone. I have added these resources to our list of full-text journals so users can find this content if searching within Baruch.

Reference Services Schedule For Week Of: October 3
This schedule is now confirmed and posted to the Reference Desk LibGuide.
Journal Citation Reports
We now have access to the Journal Citation Reports or JCR. Journal Citation Reports allows you to evaluate and compare journals using citation data drawn from over 11,000 scholarly and technical journals from more than 3,300 publishers in over 80 countries.
It is in our list of databases and available for linking on LibGuides.
ebrary access on campus
We are currently experiencing a problem accessing ebrary from our databases page when on-campus.
ebrary titles can be accessed via the catalog however, and once in there, you can search ebrary. As a reminder, if you add “ebrary” to whatever keyword you are searching in the ALL FIELDS search, you will retrieve ebrary titles only.
I hope this will be resolved shortly but please let me know if you have any questions.
Remote access on September 27th
BCTC will upgrade the ezproxy server on September 27th 2011 at 8am so users may encounter sporadic problems accessing our resources, especially remotely. The updgrade should take about 1 hour.
Reference Services Schedule For Week Of: September 26

Gartner’s availability to students vs faculty/staff
There seems to be a problem with students gaining access to Gartner through the CUNY Portal. Last night a student logged in and was NOT presented with access to Gartner. However, when I logged in after, I was presented with a link to Gartner. This would seem to suggest there is a difference in who may be permitted access to Gartner, whereas faculty/staff may be given access while students may not have access. I have informed Mike Waldman about this problem which I presume will be investigated further.
