The two videos consisted of a film on Netflix called “Immigration Nation” and a short 2-minute video from a website called “ledger-enquirer.com”. The film and the short video both share differences and similarities in which how they depict ICEĀ to be through their production. The similarities the videos show are ICE officers carrying out their duties. Both of these videos show the ICE officers arresting illegal immigrants. The differences between these videos is the way how the ICE officers are being portrayed to be. In the short 2-minute video it shows many aspects of what being an ICE officer is all about. For example, the 2-minute video presents that ICE promotes homeland security, public safety, they coordinate the return of illegal aliens, protect children from sex crimes, they investigate identity fraud, enforce drug laws, protect cultural property, etc. In terms of the production, the music they used a heroic/patriotic theme song and the lighting of the vignettes being shown in the video were bright to make it seem like what the ICE officers are doing is justifiable. The way how the overall presentation of the 2-minute video affects the audience seeing ICE is that they’re serving justice in the United States by protecting the American people from illegal immigrants. In the film “Immigration Nation” they only showed in the first episode just one aspect of what ICE does which is knocking on people’s doors looking for illegal immigrant. To add on, when the ICE officers do arrest the person they’re looking that only leaves the victim who could be relative of the illegal immigrant to suffer what they had just witnessed of ICE officers taking their loved one away from them. An example of this can be in the beginning of the episode where the ICE officers were looking to arrest an illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic and the woman who opened the door wanted a warrant from the ICE officer, but the ICE officer couldn’t give her the warrant of the immigrant’s arrest instead the officer just showed her the warrant. This now leads the woman and her mother who happened to be in the apartment at that moment be the victims of what they had just witnessed their loved one being taken away from them by the ICE officers. The way how in the film “Immigration Nation” used the production affect the audience in which they see ICE as being bad people and feeling more empathy for the immigrants and their families by using darker lighting than one used in the 2-minute video, the music choice they used were a combination of depressed/serious, and showing ICE as going after illegal immigrants who don’t pose a threat to the country. Overall, the 2-minute video shows ICE officers as being the good people rather than in the film “Immigration Nation” shows ICE as being evil.

“In terms of the production, the music they used a heroic/patriotic theme song and the lighting of the vignettes being shown in the video were bright to make it seem like what the ICE officers are doing is justifiable.” Excellent! Great narrative analysis of this artifact.
