The Arts in New York City

  1. In terms of artists and painters, Andy Warhol will always be considered one of the most iconic artists in not only pop culture but art itself. Andy Warhol’s art form is, without dispute, unique and one of the most recognizable pieces of art in the world. Not only was Andy Warhol famous for his artwork, he was famous for his extravagant ideas and forms of expression. In your report, you lightly touched on the topic of his love for celebrities. One very iconic idea for Andy Warhol was that “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” With this idea, he created what is widely known as Andy Warhol’s superstars. Like you mentioned in your paper he wanted to shock the world with sexual radicalism. As a result, the majority of his superstars were prostitutes, transgenders, and drag queens. By creating superstars out of figures of this background, he hoped to normalize and put these misunderstood misconceptions to rest.

  2. After reading your paper on the work of Andy Warhol, I was intrigued by his perception of his subjects. I found it interesting that he gained popularity for drawing objects with certain flaws or imperfections. As the father of “pop art,” Warhol’s thinking definitely advanced the revolutionary ideologies in the art of his time period, and paved the way for other artists to offer their interpretations in the future. I also think his transition to Hollywood subjects and celebrities ironically coincides with his own rise to fame during the 1960s; As Warhol painted more famous and well-known subjects, his art gained recognition as well.
