On Friday, March 3rd, we’ll be visiting the main branch of the New York Public Library! If you’ve visited this branch of the NYPL, but have never had an in-depth tour, this will certainly be a treat. The trip will be broken up into two parts: 1. An in-depth tour of the NYPL’s main branch (Schwartzman), and then, 2. you’ll be undergoing training on the library’s Oral History project! For an hour, you’ll get an overview of the scholarship behind oral history, and then be trained on how to document, and transcribe these oral history narratives. I’ve been doing this for a few semesters now, and the students love it – I hope you will too!

Learning about the history of the library will hopefully inspire your historical research for your projects, (and maybe the mid-way assignments as well). The oral history training will expose you to an archival project that will be similar to the project you will be working on for your final.

This is a good day to bring a laptop & camera! Details about meeting time, agenda, and other pertinent info will be available soon.
