  1. This is a really important issue and I think you made a strong case for it. You used examples of the trauma experienced by individual victims, like in the Brock Turner case, and paired it with examples and data on the costs to universities in terms of applications and alumni donations when they are associated with high-profile sexual assault cases. You also spelled out the monetary costs of sexual assault, which could resonate with people who aren’t moved by the personal costs to victims. I also think the data you present on the sheer number of people who this issue affects makes it feel like an urgent problem.

  2. I agree with Elora that you presented a strong case for Campus Sexual Assault. The content and organization of your problem memo was structured in such a way that created a smooth flow of information. Providing definitions for sexual assault and rape, I thought were important to explicitly describe the scope and extent of both terms in the introduction. Presenting the case of Emily Doe and Brock Turner developed a clearer understanding of the real issues and problems associated with sexual assault cases, making your arguments more persuasive and relatable at the same time. I was moved by your personal observation when you attended “Transition to College” where you pointed out that for campus colleges to realize their roles in preventing sexual assaults, they need to also focus their messaging toward potential perpetrators and perpetrators. That really struck a chord with me and was a great insight into some of the causes we may not consciously be aware of. The arguments you presented, backed by research and data, on prevalence of sexual assaults, harms, causes, short and long term effects on survivors reinforced the urgency and seriousness of the problem. Lastly, it also revealed how much this issue means to you at an emotional level and how anyone with a heart should be moved to action.
