photobook- the bronx rivera

Summary

Orchard beach: the Bronx Rivera

This collection was created by Wayne Lawrence. This book took Wayne six years to collect and finish it. For 6 summers he rode train to the beach and interviewed people. Some of the pictures are in color and some of them are in black and white. I think the reason that he doing this way is that as he mentioned is a way to confront issues of race and class using a visual language that would speak to everyday people. This is a community of working-class families, I believe there must be lots of stories behind them. However there were rare descriptions in this book , since exchange that resulted in the portraits in this collection was the most satisfaction thing for him.
My favorite picture is Tiffany 2011, a white girl with orange color and lots of tattoos and piercings all over her body and face. Her makeups and accessories were really match with the background.
Another one is untitled, Latinas, 2010, one of the few pictures in black and white, in this way, it highlighted the facial expressions of this group of people.
