Our bodies have the natural ability to maintain a healthy balance of acidity and alkalinity. A normal blood pH level is 7.40 on a scale of 0 to 14, where 0 is the most acidic and 14 is the most basic (pH stands for ‘potential of Hydrogen’).
Values below 7 indicate acidity which increases as the number decreases, 1 being the most acidic. For our bodies to run efficiently we need to keep our pH level at 7.4 and understanding the factors that impacts this level negatively helps us keeps our bodies in balance.
In chemistry, pH is a scale used to specify how acidic or basic a water-based solution is. Acidic solutions have a lower pH, while basic solutions have a higher pH. At room temperature, pure water is neither acidic nor basic and has a pH of 7 which is why water is such a important part of maintaining good health. It aids in flushing out the toxins we accumulate on a daily basis and allows for oxygen which aids blood flow and circulation.
