Final Personal Narrative of The Importance of Perseverance

Many wish to know how people become so successful in their career, so that they can incorporate those experiences to be successful like them. I realized the significance of perseverance, and embracing the “never give up” mindset allowed me to truly see the results and success that hard work does pay off.

Having the chance to engage myself in a real working environment has been an eye-opening experience for students like me. Being exposed to an early working environment gives me a sense of maturity. In Asia, where the rise of youth unemployment continues to grow at a rapid pace, I’ve witnessed that many individuals are quick to yield to despair, which can affect their well-being. My feelings towards this matter strengthen my perseverance towards never giving up, which allowed me to grow my mental health to a point where I am able to work very hard under high intense work.

Growing up in Asia, I was deeply influenced by our cultural tradition where younger generations are expected to support their parents in various ways. We would devote our entire day if possible to help out our parents in the business such as a cashier or even doing chores. As we realize that our parents work extremely hard to provide food and education on the table to make sure we don’t have to go through the hardships they went through. In our cultural context, it’s understandable that failure is a part of life. But we were also taught that conceding to obstacles and challenges is not an option. Our ancestors passed down a valuable lesson to us: “Don’t give up so easily; you’re still young and have plenty of time to learn. Unlike us, who are older and can’t grasp knowledge as quickly as you can, persevere and never concede.” Hearing this wisdom made me have a sense of responsibility and become more mature.

In my personal experience, as I dedicated myself to pursuing my accounting degree, I became more aware of how one’s health can unfold during one’s academic journey. Undoubtedly, hard work and perseverance comes with great rewards. But they can come with a price that can trigger a wide range of positive and negative health. While others may find satisfaction in their achievements, others may grasp with intense feelings of regret. The pursuit of education often carries an opportunity cost that can lead to various actions and responses. In which it has the potential to create feelings of discontent and place significant stress on one’s mental health, especially in light of financial burdens.

To dive in deeper, I conducted a survey among 100 of my peers, exploring their perseverance in relation to their chosen majors. The result reveals that the majority of my peers expressed regret regarding their academic choices and wanted to switch to more demanding career paths. While the survey focused on academics and career choices, it also sheds light on the mental constraint that many students face such as depression, unhealthy thoughts, undergoing rounds of self incompetence, etc. After seeing these results, I can see the correlation between my peers’ struggles and my own perservance. It is through self-reflection and careful consideration to pursue a career as a public accountant, fully aware that this decision will require me to confront and overcome the challenges that lie ahead.

After being fully committed to my accounting career. I wanted some career advice from people that consistently work hard and continue to learn and grow. After doing some research I found a well-known millionaire named Manny Khoshbin. Hearing the words from his childhood story of how he started from nothing and worked his way to becoming one of the world’s wealthiest men really inspired me to work very hard in my accounting career.  With the motivation I got from him I was able to effectively work on my studies and continue to push for success as my goal is to become a CPA and be able to influence many others into the importance of perseverance and how it will help you in the long run.

I devote the majority of my time in my academics as well as finding jobs that correlate with my major. For once in a lifetime I felt that I was actually learning something useful. After learning more about accountancy, I found this career that I plan to study really suits me well. Furthermore I would be so excited to go to class and learn more about accounting. With the help of perseverance and not giving up so easily I was able to teach non-accounting students accounting and it felt so great that I decided to have daily lessons towards my students that were having trouble in accounting. This satisfaction motivates me more to pursue the public accounting route as I tend to like to help people in any way shape or form.

Till this day, I tend to continue to push myself and achieve new obstacles that may come across. Something that I came to realize when having a perseverance mindset is that life is a journey of trials and errors, with success counting on one’s ability to eliminate mistakes and maintain a positive mindset while pursuing a fulfilling career will soon bound to succeed.

After taking a cold shower my body felt so comfortable and I was able to really work on my prompt and have inner thoughts. I see a big difference in the writing being that the weather also affects the performance of the individual especially this month of September where it’s so humid every day I just felt like not doing work at an efficient pace and just sleep all day. After taking a cold shower I felt the energy and motivation back in me and I just started typing nonstop to a point where I got a lot of it done. It just needs minor editing and feedback than I am good to go. I plan to do this more often and test different ways to up my motivation to do work in order to efficiently be more productive.

Copying passage:

Marry Juetten “None of us get to where we are in life without some level of grit and perseverance. There are those of whom more is unfairly asked in the way of perseverance by virtue of their birth, and others for whom advantages are immediately accrued by that same birth, but with few exceptions all will face challenges great and small throughout their life, ones that we simply have to push our way through. On those occasions our intellect and ambition may help us navigate the challenge, but it’s our ability to withstand those trials that will ultimately see us to the other side.

The life of our businesses often play out much as life itself does: we try, we fail, we get lucky and fall onto bad luck and occasionally make our own luck, and eventually everything ends one way or another. Things will break against you and your business far more often than you’d like, and probably more than you feel is fair. In times like that we have to be able to put our heads down and keep at it when it might seem easier to give up, or more cathartic to sit in your office and complain about the unfairness of the universe. Occasionally those bad breaks will be of your own doing; mistakes are as much a part of your business as they are of life, and sometimes those mistakes have consequences in the immediate and down the road. We could again just give up and throw in the towel, but instead we persevere and work to correct what we can and work past what we can’t.”

Reflection:

After copying out the passage of a case article that I was doing for my other case I realized that there was a big comprehension barrier between me and the article. The way I read the article and compared it to my teachable moment prompt I do believe that the quality of the article was a bit better because it was more analytical and that my piece was more of a informative piece. The reason I say a bit better was because the article was a bit sloppy in giving me the right answer that I am looking for; and that if you read my prompt I am more straight forward, and it be easy in what I am trying to show you in learning about a teachable moment and how that teachable moment can be carried throughout your life.

Personal Narrative Abstract

I have three teachable moments that I want to share my experience with the class because I feel that this valuable lesson can change people’s perspective of what it’s like working in a real-world environment. I hope my readers will be able to use this experience and apply it to their everyday life because it really did have a huge impact on me and turn my life around. My three teachable moments are being able to reflect on what you did wrong, start your career early to have a taste of what’s it like working in a work environment and finally any action you take or do has a consequence whether it be good or bad. These are the valuable and teachable moments that I want the reader to really reflect and grasp on what I am trying to tell them.

Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Steven and I’m a transfer student here at Baruch. A form of writing that I have enjoy the most and taken at my other college is analytical writing and I like to compare between things. When writing something that I am most anxious about is my grammar. Reason for this being that the way I write things it goes well and makes sense but, to others they sort of understand what I am writing as my essays tend to be a bit vague. One of my goals for this class is to improve my writing but also interact with the communication of writing, as there are many ways to talk to people but sometimes there are better ways to say it.

The Importance of Perservance

Many wish to know how people become so successful in their career, so that they can incorporate those experiences to be successful like them. I realized the significance of perseverance, and embracing the “never give up” mindset allowed me to truly see the results and success that hardwork can pay off. Having a chance to be engaged in a real world working experience has been an eye opener for students like myself. In Asia is becoming the world’s largest unemployment continent in the world many tend to give up very easily which can lead to bad health. In Asia, it’s a tradition for us young generation to help our parents in any way shape of form. In our dictionary, failure can be accepted because we try our hardest to give our family the best life possible. But, giving up is not an option as our ancestors taught us that “You haven’t tried hard enough, why are you giving up so early, your still young there’s still time to learn unlike us we are old and cannot learn as fast as you, so keep trying and never give up”. Hearing the this statement made me felt a sense of responsibility and a maturity. These moments should be cherished and kept in your heart at all times as we are very fortunate to have an education compared to others. As individuals dedicate themselves to the pursue their degree, they must remain mindful of the emotional and behavioral consequences that may occur in their academic journey. Undoubtedly, hard work and perseverance does pay off, but they come at a cost that can trigger a variety of feelings whether it’s good or bad. While some may be satisfied with their accomplishments, others may have a strong affection of regret. The opportunity cost of achieving one’s educational goals can cause different emotions to occur. Such factors can trigger feelings of unhappiness and strain one’s mental health due to financial burdens and a lack of perseverance in achieving their dream job. I’ve conducted a survey involving 100 of my peers in their perseverance in enjoying their major studies. The results show that most of my peer’s regret choosing their major and wish they could have changed for a more demanding career. This regret was made by the realization of changing paths might ease them a bit but, in the long run, expenses are still building up. It is from self-thought and reflection that I personally draw my motivation to pursue a career as a public accountant, understanding that this choice will be a part of my life throughout the challenges I am going to have to face. It’s stated that everyone wishes others to succeed in their career. But what happens to those who didn’t succeed and failed to persevere. My advice is to continue to work hard and never give up. It’s ok to fail and everyone is understanding; it’s a matter of whether you give up or not. A well-known millionaire named Manny Khoshbin started from nothing and worked his way up. The success from this man demonstrates how people who are not afraid to fail and continue their career will one day succeed and be able to influence others in succeeding to. Hearing the words from his mouth really inspired me to work very hard in my accounting career. In conclusion, teachable moments are often moments that are memorable and being able to influence others with those moments. These moments really shape who I am here today. Being exposed to the teachable moments allows me to really apply the experiences I have learned from them to my career. These moments are crucial to me as I plan to apply these teachable moments in the near future. Life is all about trials and errors, it’s a matter of how you fix your mistakes and have a good mentality in succeeding in your career.
