rayan’s world

week 15

Looking back, i definitely want to revise my literary narrative. I have a few great ideas of turning this essay into a movie. I found that the literacy narrative gives me the most creative freedom, which means I can take these liberties of branching out into new ideas. As a writer, I find that it’s important to delve into other forms of media to get a message out because being a writer is more than just writing; it’s a form of communication and being able to convey a message.

Upon lookin at my literacy narrative I found it’s the most relatable to me, as a student and the audience, who are likely to be students themselves or a teacher. With that in mind, it’s important that I make my movie in accordance to my audience, being my teacher, by making it mostly informative while getting to the point, with bits of comedy because comedy is great. Overall, this is looking to be the most fun I’ve had in terms of a writing project so far.

week 14

  1. Parrott writes about metacognition and the idea that writers aren’t necessarily prolific and definitely aren’t just lucky or naturally gifted, but are instead persistent. How would you define and describe persistence in this course and in your writing experiences? Do you consider yourself a writer?

SO, in regards to this course, those who are more persistent are destined to perform better. Since our essays can have multiple drafts to them, those who take advantage of that and write consistently would naturally do better. I find that in my writing experiences, I am far from persistent. I do the work how I see fit and only make changes when necessary (as directed by my teacher) so I would have to say I am not a writer by any means. My writing skills are simply lacking and that’s that. i hope to change that next semester by putting more attention to my writing, however.

  • When you first read the assignment or realized we would be doing a Research project, what were your expectations? What were you concerned about? Excited about? What did you think it would be like?

I considered myself good at research projects until this point. I found that very specific details should be backed up with credible sourcing and it was fairly difficult to do in its fullest extent. Furthermore, I expected to be given a research topic as opposed to making my own, even though I was given several examples of sample research topics which was interesting. I was excited to learn about my research topic since it was something I’ve wondered about in my senior year of high school. While the overall essay was enjoyable, I was more-so concerned about how I was going to structure it. In the end, I was fairly disappointed in my lack of proper researching skills.

M-E-A-L planning

After looking at my rough draft along with the comments made, I found that my essay is lacking in a few parts. My thesis is weak but is fairly clear, just not right at the beginning of my essay. However, my content distribution is not that bad. While it seems a bit too anecdotal for a research essay, the material I used was really good and relevant to my main point.

Using the MEAL method, I analyzed my paragraph about Rylan Hefner, and found that it could use polishing. Starting with M, I did state a main point, but it followed with the end of my previous paragraph so on its own, it seems too vague. Next for E, I found that my evidence was excellent in that I backed up my claim using his article. A stands for analyzing evidence, which I did good as well. Although, I didn’t differentiate enough that this was a personal blog as opposed to a formal article. Finally, L. L stands for linking back to the main point, which I did vaguely since I didn’t properly form my main point until later.

Overall, I didn’t do as good as I hoped
