I had customer conversations with the second prototype (find the details in the previous post “Updated Product Idea”) with my husband. He was not excited with this prototype, again. Sigh…  More bad news for me, he bought a new guitar!! The one he had wanted for a long time. Then he told me that he cares about the dust now and wants to protect guitars from it. On top of that, now he is very sensitive to the humidity and tries to maintain 40-50% humidity which is the best for the brand new guitar.

Based on his feedback, I iterated the design thinking steps.

This is the latest version of my product.

<Product Description>

This product consists of 3 parts; Top, Middle, Bottom.

-Top Part

You can hang 5 guitars on the hooks that can spin around with the rail.

Guitars are displayed with the protection of glass panels and glass door in front. (The “hole” rectangles were used for the glass panels/door and the roof panel on TinkerCad so that you can see the inside.)

-Middle Part

Upper: Free space for the extra equipment

Lower: Drawer for the cables

-Bottom Part

You can put the effector units on the dolly type drawer and slide it in and out smoothly.

This product comes with a hygrometer that sends an alert when the humidity turns to the out of the range of 40-50%. You can connect this device with Alexa so your humidifier would be turned on automatically.

Reviewing my product journey…

I started this journey when I saw the problems that my husband has a lot of guitars and music equipment, and often leaves them on the couch or desk, which is far from his ideal environment to create good songs.

So I designed the wall-mounted hanger to display guitars to help him to organize his instruments better and display some of his favourite ones.

First Design

Through customer conversations, it turned out that my first design was a product that solves my problems, not target user’s problems, and it was more for inconvenience things that should be fixed. He told me that he was not interested in it at all and his real problem is organizing a number of cables and effector units.

2nd Design

My second design ended up with just a piece of customized furniture, which my husband wasn’t excited about at all. He was more excited about his new guitar and mentioned about additional needs, such as protection from the dust and proper humidity for his guitars.

Latest Version

Combining the first design and second design, my latest version was updated based on my husband feedback and my classmates’ thoughtful advice. It looks so different from the original idea. It was a quite product journey for me. Finally, my husband told me that he likes this product and would like to buy it, and even he thinks this product would be popular among guitarists. Although I’m aware of the fact that family or close friends view in a favourable light and don’t give me rational or fair opinions, still, his positive comments on the latest version made me very happy.
