Here at Baruch College, the regular college’s atmosphere is different than the honors program’s atmosphere. To be more specific, when I first came to Baruch, I was welcomed by very friendly people. All around, from the staff to other peers, almost every person was willing to help me and answer any of my questions. In fact, there has yet to be a time when someone here at Baruch was acting unfriendly, or even rude. On the other hand, while the staff at Honors Program at Baruch College is also super friendly, the atmosphere around my peers and professors is different. Specifically, when I am surrounded by my peers in honors courses, I feel as if there is an underlying competitive nature to the courses. As a whole, I believe this is what the Baruch Honors Program promotes as the program pushes students to be the best student possible. Basically, the Baruch Honors Program seems competitive to me because competition is a simply a byproduct of striving for greatness. However, since all the students I have encountered have been friendly and not overly competitive, I still feel comfortable in the scholarly atmosphere. Additionally, while my role is still being established and shaped as I am still breaking into the Barcuh lifestyle, I wish to have an active role in the Baruch Community. I intend on growing my role in the community by joining clubs and participating in school spirit. WIth so many extracurricular opportunities, I belive it will be easy to grow my role.

I couldn’t agree more. I have had only positive and friendly experiences with both the students and staff within the honors community. I also agree that there is definitely a competitive nature being a part of the honors program, but people still act respectfully and kindly.
I feel the same way. When I first got to Baruch, I wasn’t expecting so many nice people, that I’ve never met before, to be so willing to help me with anything. While I do agree that our Baruch Scholars group is similarly competitive, we’re all still amazingly friendly with one another. We all tend to learn from each other and also poke fun in similar situations. The professors and the classwork may be difficult, but at least everyone I’ve met so far has been friendly.
