About the SGMH Lab
Our Mission
Established in 2018, the mission of the Sexual and Gender Minority Health (SGMH) Lab at Baruch College is to conduct research that leads to improvements in the mental and physical health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ) people.
Our Research
Dr. Christopher Stults is the founder of and primary investigator at the SGMH Lab. His research is guided by syndemic theory, which posits that multiple epidemics, which are exacerbated by structural inequalities, synergistically interact to compromise the health of LGBTQ people. His work is comprised of four foci: intimate partner violence (IPV), consensual non-monogamy (CNM), health-risk behaviors, and collective trauma. The overarching goal of Dr. Stult’s research is to better understand how behaviors, identities, and contexts interrelate to influence mental and physical health outcomes.
