Shumpert Looks Sharp in Bid as Shooting Guard

The friendly rivalry between J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert heated up when they played against the Boston Celtics a few nights ago. Coach Mike Woodson decided to put the spot light on what promises to be one of the early season’s more captivating dramas by declaring an open competition between Iman Shumpert and J. R. Smith for the starting position as the shooting guard. Shumpert, clad in his fluorescent orange sneakers scored 18 points on his 7 for 7 shooting, but he would have to keep up the good work to win the spot over the best sixth man last year. That night the Knicks played hard for a 103-102 win over the Celtics. With the motivation to get the starting position, hopefully Shumpert will play as well as he did for every game to come.
