Assignment 4: Theses

As human beings, we are supposed to learn from our mistakes; however it seems as if I just don’t learn.

In the Nigerian culture, you are deemed a “rebel” once you go against what the elders believe.

  1. I think your theses can be more specific. The first one tells the readers that your essay is going to be about “learning from mistakes”. However, this does not appear to be related to “powerplay”. Perhaps you want to add more details to be clearer. For the second one, I see that the “powerplay” is between the elders and the youngers. It is more specific comparing to the first one.

  2. JMERLE says:

    Damilola,

Yes, I agree with Angelina that the first seems a bit vaguely related to power play; however, perhaps you have something in mind, in which case you simply need to be clearer. The second could be quite interesting, I think. If you choose this one, then think of an area where young people are particularly seen as “rebels” (personal life choices, political choices, etc.). For this second one, you might need to use an extra secondary source, on top of the Russell, but perhaps not, if you simply stick to personal experience.
