Thesis: Orenstein’s essay on America’s sex education and the hesitation in openly exploring sexuality seem valid as she discusses America’s two forms of sex ed: comprehensive and abstinence-only, as well as providing statistics highlighting the ignorance of some young women as a result.
For the second essay, I will be exploring an excerpt essay from Peggy Orenstein’s Girls & Sex published by the Los Angeles Times comparing The Netherlands to our system of educating teens about sex. Also, I plan on referring to the New York Times op-ed article titled ‘When Did Porn Become Sex Ed?’ to link the two authors’ similar perspectives on youth and the culture of sex.
