Digital Literacy Narrative

First, describe your presence in this class. Did you know you were signing up for a hybrid writing class?

I was aware that this class was different.  I read the description online when I was adding this class to my cart on Cunyfirst.

What do you expect from a hybrid class? Have you taken one before? What questions do you have as we begin? What does “good participation” in a class mean to you in a hybrid context?

I have taken a hybrid class before.  I took an accounting hybrid class. It was different for me but it made me mature because it was my responsibility to get my work on time online. I expect to do the same for this class as well. I want to improve on my English skills. I don’t have any questions as of now.  Good participation means always asking questions on the readings that are assigned in class, since we only meet once a week.

Next, tell me about you as a writer and a reader. What types/genres of writing do you enjoy? What forms of digital writing do you encounter in your everyday life and for what purposes?

I love to read and when it’s time to write I write a lot. I like to write about anything.  I’m subscribed to the New York times, so in the mornings going to school I read a few articles about anything.  I choose this subscription because not only do I get information about NY but about everything that’s happening in the world. Their vocabulary is more sophisticated and I want to improve speech.

What programs and/or technologies enable these forms of composing? Try to think widely here (email, social media, texting, word processing apps such as Google Docs, Microsoft Word, etc.).

Nowadays I think all programs use all types of technologies that are available from social media to texting.

What is your prior experience with composing using multiple forms of media? What is your method for reading analysis? Do you take notes? Do you read online, on your phone, etc? Do you prefer to have a tangible text?

I think I have good experince with composing using multiple forms of media. When it comes to analyzing readings I have to reread the text more than once. I take notes on the side of the texts that seem important.  I read online, on my phone but I mostly prefer to have tangible text.

Finally, what is your earliest memory of writing?

My earliest memory of writing I have is in second grade. I had to write about the Iroquois culture and I had to gather information from just books. I took notes and that’s when I learned about the process of writing.

How has “writing” changed for you since that memory? What are your strengths as a writer and/or composer of digital/online texts? Recall a past experience when you felt proud of your writing and digital composing: Who was the audience? Where did this piece of work circulate? What are your current views about writing?

My writing has changed since that memory.  One of my greatest strengths is reviewing my work and editing my work more than two times. I reread my work and I try to edit it before I have someone review it. One piece that I’m proud of is writing a research paper. I was passionate about writing about a country. I haven’t done this piece of writing since middle school. I like to write and people giving me feedback.
