Galaxy Gear

When I was young I used to watch tons of “Power Rangers” as all the other 5-year-old kids. Watching the show, I always wanted to be a “Ranger” as they were called. Rangers would use wrist watches to communicate amongst each other; during this time period the “wrist communicator” was a mind blowing technology of the future, something we could just imagine. Who would of thought in 2013, we would finally have one of these “Wrist Communicators”.

Samsung officially announced the release date for their Galaxy Gear watch, as I call it the “Ranger Watch” on September 25, 2013. It’s a very sleek innovative watch that not only looks good on your wrist but also has all the functions of your phone. You can now surf the web, read and write  messages all from your wrist, amazing aren’t it. Allow me t o elaborate a bit more on some on design, hardware specs. Samsung did a fairly good job  making interaction with Galaxy Gear simple and easy to learn. The entirety of its interface and control is based on gestures, with swipes and taps commanding your backs and selections. When on the home screen, you simply swipe either left or right to access favorite applications and modes. When inside of an app or menu, all you have to do is swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom, and it takes you to the previous page. This device also features a 1.63″ Super AMOLED display an 800MHz processor, and 512MB of RAM, 4GB of onboard storage, Bluetooth 4.0, two microphones, one speaker, and an insanely small 315mAh battery. However, with cameras on smartphones and tablets now a prerequisite, Samsung has decided that watch wearers are in need of an integrated snapper also. The Galaxy Gear has a camera built into its strap, with a 1.9-megapixel sensor backed by auto focus capabilities.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear might be the device, which brings smart watches to the forefront. Already the smart watch industry is becoming competitive with speculations of Apple releasing their version of the Galaxy Gear and we all know how innovative apple can get. I am simply amazed of this gadget, this is something I imagined when I was a child from a TV show and now its finally here. Instead of communicating with “Alpha” as did the rangers I can communicate with my friends through my wrist just as they did on Power Rangers. Funny part is Samsung actually did use Power Ranger footage for the galaxy gear commercial.

  1. I believe the “Ranger Watch” really is a great invention. it is very convenience for our daily lives. However, I believe 1.63″ display is too small, if it can be a little bit bigger, It will be perfect.
