Chotta’s Inferno
Written By: Farah Javed
Artwork By: Alexandra Adelina Nita
“Chhota’s Inferno” was inspired by Farah’s own experiences having a strawberry mark. She recalls telling her middle school teacher she has one, only for them to tell her some cultures would’ve had her killed in ancient times for having a visible birthmark. Needless to say, vivid imagery. That memory, paired with her desire to see more complex South Asian and Muslim narratives beyond existing stereotypes, paved the way for Chhota’s coming-of-age story.
