Despite the feelings that have long since passed
I still find myself thinking of you
The Lady that I serve
For whom I would do anything
Together since childhood
Yet never promised to me
Your heart was never meant to be mine
For fear of the flames
I left the Palace along with the first falling leaves
Five months passed since the Autumn you left
It was those dreadful rumors
That forced you away
Did you notice the sparkle in my eyes
Reserved for you and you alone
They must have too
How disgusted with me you must’ve been
For you to have gone without saying good-bye
I wonder how you will react to the news
Soon reaching the East
Maybe this will bring you back to me
Had your Father honoured your wish
To never marry
As promised Diana of hers
Then I would survive
Even if I were not by your side
But with your letter came an invitation
To a Ball held in your Honour
You are of marriageable age, as am I
Now we must meet the eligible men of high stature
To bring honour to our houses
The very Autumn breeze that stole you
Once again returned you to me
Your coffee hair longer now
Pale skin now sun-kissed
Constellations adorning your cheeks
Your eyes darker than onyx
Held a certain sorrow
Matching my own
How I missed your cherry locks
And your sapphire gaze
Your complexion of honey
Dusted pink when your eyes
Locked with mine
A silent understanding
I must keep you at arms length
Though all I want is your embrace
Despite all our efforts
The rumors are reborn
Like a phoenix from the flame
I must choose my husband soon
Both our reputations are at stake
The noblemen call upon me daily
Speaking of all their successes
They have so much to offer my Father
Perfect manners, chivalric indeed
Through their facades of nobility I see
Nothing more than animals in heat
I wish you would steal me away
Perhaps it was our Mothers’ desires
To be sisters by law
That made my heart race for you
Her stomach a round moon
Picked the name Henry prematurely
When I was born
Instead, I was called Helen
A disappointment since birth
Yet, I pray to Venus to grant Helen the strength
Henry would have had
I heard you return to the East
Leaving again, no goodbye
How can I fault you?
I wish to see you
Even one last time
My selfish heart
Aching for you
Alone
