Jockey Convicted of Assault
Jockey Robby Albarado has been convicted of assaulting his girlfriend while trying to get his phone back from her. Albarado, a proud jockey, who has won more than 4,300 races, is facing fourth-degree assault charges, with a $500 fine with no jail time. This is not the first time Albarado has been in trouble with the law; Albarado will be going back to court next week for a hearing to see if he had violated his release terms in an earlier assault case. Last year, Albarado was charged with endangerment and domestic assault related to an issue with his wife. The charges were dropped, however, Albarado confessed to attempting to interfere with a witness which led to his conditional release.
Albarado’s girlfriend claims to have felt that her life was at stake, and she was scared to death. While Albarado claims that she walked in on him with no invitation and taking his phone to check if he was having an affair. Although Albarado was relieved with just a $500 fine, their relationship paid a heavier price.
Albarado was arrested hours before he was scheduled to ride in the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs in Louisville. He was stripped of the privilege to participate in a total of sixteen races.
