Introduction: Christian Parra

Hey Everyone,

My name is Christian Parra, and this is my second semester at Baruch college. I transferred over after I graduated from Borough of Manhattan Community College with a associates in computer information systems. One of my favorite books is The Hobbit, which is a fantasy novel about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins and his adventure with thirteen dwarves. Most of my interest are in technology and programming, I am also a avid MMA fan.

What I found challenging to understand, was the following:

[As for homogenization and agency, there are no such things as pure, autonomous cultures that are not “contaminated,” as Kwame Appiah puts it, by productive contact with other cultures. 1 Indeed, “homogenization” has emerged as something of a false villain in debates about globalization, in that similarity or uniformity is as much undone by contact with other cultures as it is enforced by it. The same can be said about agency, which is often linked to debates about homogenization.]

I am not fully familiarized with the meaning and stances behind homogenization, besides the research I did for this. From my understanding, the term refers to reducing cultural diversity.
