“The Candidates Debate Tax Cuts and Welfare”

?scp=1&sq=welfare&st=cse

So this is a recent article on NYTimes in which both McCain and Obama criticize the other’s tax policies, while making references to welfare. Basically McCain has been calling Obama’s Tax proposal a “welfare giveaway to working class voters”. He even accuses Obama of wanting to turn the IRS “into a giant welfare agency, redistributing massive amounts of wealth at the direction of politicians in Washington”. Obama responded to this by claiming that McCain is completely out of touch with the middle class and attacks his plan to give $200 billion in tax cuts to wealthy corporations. He also claims that McCain might be “the first politician in history to call a tax cut for the working people, welfare”

When it comes to the economy im with Obama. I just hate this trickle down economy that McCain supports where he thinks that if we give more money to big wealthy corporations it will all trickle down to everyone else. I also find it interesting that both candidates use “welfare” as a way to describe the tax breaks that certain individuals would get under the other’s tax policy. I dont know, what do you guys think?

good observation… they definitely seem to use the term welfare to critique each other — its packed with that powerful of a negative connotation I suppose…

I do agree with you in that given money to the rich that it will eventually trickle down to the working class people oe the poor which in reality it hardly does.
I also think that it want be a perfect fixs to the tax break problem but what I do know is that there is a better solution than giving tax break to the rich. That goes to show us all how one sided McCain is in his thoughts, and that why must everything start from the top. As was mention in class before, why not give more money to the working class people and the poor and just let the money trickle up. That’s just common sense when there is more money in the hands of the people then they will spent more.

McCain’s policy to give tax cuts to corporations and not the middle class is unjustifiable, they are already well off…he needs to put more emphasis on the struggles of working middle class families… the heads of these companies are already making big bucks and yet they need a bailout. Its uncalled for…I back Obama’s tax proposal in that he is looking out for the middle class.

McCain has truly lost it if he has proposed to give tax cuts to the rich! He needs to put more importance to the working class(the backbone) of America! How can u even expect now in the midst of all these corporation scandenls for the CEOS to actually ensure that the money will trickle down?!
