Moonlight Festival
The early evening was filled with chatters and anticipation. The line to the Moonlight Festival hosted by UCLA (United Chinese Language Association) extended 1 street outside of Baruch. People entered through a metal scanner coupled with a security check in grunts or in silence. Raffle tickets were given out followed by plates of Chinese food, filling the hall with a delicious and mouth-watering aroma. The seats were occupied much quicker than the pace of the line seemed to move. Suddenly, the atmosphere turned exuberant as the room filled with eager people and music cranked to the max. The event lasted for approximately 3 hours. Groups and partners scurried out to the photo booth where more laughter, smiles and silly expressions were exchanged. As fast as the room filled with noises, it also ceased quickly as the M.C. of the night, Justin Luu, spoke to the crowd. Dancers were introduced. Their fast and in sync movements left the audience in awe and they set a pulsating mood as the crowd anticipated for more. The audiences participated in fun games and collaborated with singers by clapping at beats or singing along. The evening was neatly drawn to an end with raffles and prizes, where the luckiest of all took home Beats noise-cancelling headphones. It was a light and vibrant night in celebration of a traditional and heart-warming Chinese culture, the Moonlight Festival.
