Ghosthunt in a Lunatic Asylum
Do you believe in ghosts? Have you been to a haunted house and tried to search for a ghost? John Searles, who doesn’t believed in ghosts but wanted to see one, went to a Saturday night ghost haunting tour at Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, West Virginia. The building was constructed between 1858 and 1881 and was first used as a mental hospital that accommodated for 250 patients. It was closed in 1994 and then rumored to be haunted. Visitors could pay $100 dollars to have a overnight experience camping in the building. They would be broke into groups and assigned to guide to tour the floors. Visitors are also allowed to wander freely in the building in search for ghosts until dawn, of course, with flashlights. While John Searles and his friend Thomas planned to camp in the lobotomy recovery room, they heard a straight noise as if something was dragged on the floor. As they went down along with their guide to the room where the sound came from, they saw no one – there was supposed be no one because that was the off-limits part of the asylum. They soon gathered they stuff and returned to their car. John wrote in the end, “ I looked back at the dim lights of the asylum and thought of all the people I knew who had a ghost story to tell. If only I could make myself believe it, I would finally have one too.” Brave you, would you like to have your own ghost story at Tran-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum?
