Can something be not your fault, but your responsibility? This question can be very debatable. I think that in some cases the answer would be yes. For example, the people who invented racism are all dead, but as Americans who know the history of racism, we should be responsible to make things right. It may not directly be our fault, but it is our responsibility to learn from the past and fix the mistakes that past Americans have made. We are all responsible in making sure that history does not repeat itself. So reparations for people wronged in the past is our responsibility because we are trying to make our country better.

I totally agree with you. This issue goes beyond taking responsibility for something of the past, we have to be the better people and do whats right for this country, even if we had nothing to do with it in the first place.
I agree with you that we are responsible in making sure history doesn’t repeat. I think by condoning the discrimination that the black community faces, it is allowing slavery (in a different form) to happen again.
I believe that speaking up on the issues that is going on in our society is the civilians responsibility, to prevent history from repeating it self.
I agree and couldn’t have answered the question any better myself. Like all of our goals as a society, pursuing equality doesn’t end at patching up our own actions. We have a duty to get it accomplished, regardless of whether or not we instigated it.
I completely agree with you Sharmily. I like how you brought up the “inventors of racism”. I never thought of it that way.
