NYC ReMIX Goetz Poem – Edgar Castillo

Goetz
I was savagely beaten and mugged in the hands of pests
I was bludgeoned with fists and now I extremely detest
What did you think happened?
Think there was any resolve by the police?
Or maybe they even rendered the man free who ruined my self esteem
But don’t feel bad for me
While in Florida Uncle Sam gave me a pass to seek, yes seek, justice for those who have hurt me
It took time, that it did
I had a great time yes, that I did

Goetz
While sitting in the subway
There were a couple of young pests who seem to have been led astray by those who feel nothing but detest
I can see it even before they speak
I can see just from their eyes
That these PESTS whom, unfamiliar of my superiority spoke to me with contempt
They pleaded saying they needed some cash
I, of course just said that I didn’t have any money and that shouldn’t been it, right?
Wrong.
In an instant it they aggressively told me to give them my money
They believed they were intimidating me with their raised voices but little did they know I was happy
Happy that three years have passed and I finally can exact my revenge
I even think he might’ve been ruffling through his pockets
So I stared them and replied, you can all have it
I then unloaded my gun as much as I saw fit

Goetz
Everyone loves me
From the neighborhood dog to the veteran who lives across the street
Oh strong strong strong little ol’ me
They tried to put me on charges but what are fans if they cannot set me free?
Crime rate is down, Morality is up
Is this the result of having some pest being paralyzed everywhere but the waist up?
Well who cares?
It was only self defense
And even so, who better to get off with a lesser charge than me, Bernhard Goetz?

ART-A-THON

For the ART-A-THON I attended the piano playing event as I already have experience with music and was very curious as to how to play piano. The program was lead by a very sweet woman whose name I don’t want to misspell. She taught us how to play a blues song on the piano. It was an extremely easy song and she also proceeded to teach us the which notes were which on the piano. There were different people in the room, some experienced, others not. After practicing the song for a bit the instructor then invited a man named Gordon to join us playing. He was absolutely fantastic and I played alongside the instructor and Gordon at the same time. It was extremely fun, and I definitely enjoyed much more than I thought I would. After this I went to the single piano rooms and stayed there for hours playing not knowing time passed. I’m extremely grateful to have learned of this room and event because I go to the piano room often at least twice a week. I’m currently learning to play the “Corpse’s Bride” duet. The single rooms tend to be empty and they aren’t bad in any way. I came to this event at first mostly because of the extra credit opportunity, so the fact that I was able to pick up a very relaxing and entertaining hobby was a great shock to me. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. This event was magnificent and I definitely encourage everyone to participate in any event like this as I had a great time.

Trip Report Museum Of Sex

The “Museum of Sex” is pretty close to the Baruch vertical campus, as my friends and I got there by walking from Baruch. It is located on 233 5th ave. Going to “MoSex” was an odd experience. My friends and I went blindly not knowing how it was or worked except that we had to be 18 years of age. We all went because we were overworked from studying and just wanted to take a break from college. It wasn’t too far and it was surely a fun experience mostly because of my friends.

Before the entrance there’s a sex shop with both serious and funny apparatuses. Walking around there seemed to be “sexperts” who would walk about and inform us on what specific things did and would add random fun facts. Overall, the sex shop in itself was pretty entertaining.
The price of entry isn’t too expensive as it was 20 dollars (it’s even more for the breast bouncy house). (You also have to show ID). They also allow the option of holding your extra baggage for you and give you a ticket.

The museum was completely different than I thought it would be. I thought it would be much more informational and museum-esque but it was more leaning to aesthetics and pornography with a few exceptions. Starting at the apparent main exhibition on Nobuyoshi Araki, a Japanese pornographic photographer who seem to be particularly interested in bondage. This room was extremely dark and had a very weird oaky smell to it. It felt rather ominous and influenced a sense of silence even among my friends. It was pretty silent as well. It was highlighted quite often that Araki was a figure that used his paintings to in some way be rebellious towards the “system”. He wanted to stand different, using taboo materials to shoot his pornography. Another thing that not only caught my attention but as well as my friends is that he tend to have sex with many of the models. This was interesting as this didn’t seem to be that controversial even when there’s an obvious power play going on. His works can vary to extremely beautiful to very rough around the edges. His shooting was extremely fascinating as some made you feel confused whether to feel dirty or cleansed. His photography seemingly was a mix of those two feelings.

Another exhibit that comes to mind is “The Sex Life of Animals”. This was an extremely funny and informative exhibit. This one was very much what I thought I signed myself up for. This exhibit was extremely loud, as it had speakers all over the place playing animals making sex noises. I learned quite a bit from this exhibit. Ducks have corkscrew penises and also are extremely demented animals. Dolphins use more than one type of penetrative places. Some animals have more than one male member. This is in my opinion their most successful exhibit as it was both informative and entertaining.

The other exhibits were really forgettable which was quite underwhelming. Some pieces were surely eye catching though. Pieces which got all of us to argue who’s guess on what was the fruit presented as a phallic object was right were fun. At times even the people who worked at the museum would pitch in ideas as well. I loved how some rooms had a great mix of colors. These rooms were very bright and smelled great, with the scent of flowers. Some pieces on the other hand could be pretty boring. After going up some stairs to a room that smelled like knock-off scented candles, we arrived to some kind of book collection taking a large chunk of the entire room where I believe could have had something entirely different. This piece was not only boring but very inefficient considering that I, someone who stands 6 ft tall couldn’t even see the book in the middle all that well.

All in all, this museum is an alright experience. I personally feel like going alone would be very boring so definitely bring friends as it would lighten up the mood. There weren’t many exhibits open when I went so it was kind of underwhelming in some ways. The fact that it closed at ten p.m. was extremely odd as well. What kind of sex museum closes at ten? I would say that going into this museum is not the best thing you could be doing in New York City but its surely not the absolute worst either. The museum itself was very mediocre, but the experience was definitely memorable.

NY Minute: Bronx Zoo – Edgar Castillo

The Bronx Zoo is a place that anyone who has the pleasure of living in NYC has to go to. Recently, I found out that many New Yorkers haven’t visited the Bronx Zoo or even know that it existed. The Bronx Zoo, according to many zoo rankings, ranks in the top 10 best zoos in america. This zoo has almost any animal you can think of, and guess what? It’s free on Wednesdays. Not only that but it is very inexpensive for a zoo of this caliber. This zoo is home to more than 4,000 animals of 650 different species. Fun Fact: Tracy Morgan, very popular comedian, owns bought the zoo back in 2015. While zoos are extremely controversial in today’s culture, it is important to understand the significance of zoos like the Bronx Zoo, which gives their animals a very large area to roam, and promote the growth of species that are nearing extinction. I’ve gone to the zoo probably a dozen times at this point. Whether it was for field trips, or because my friends wanted to go. Something I cannot say even after numerous visits is that the Bronx Zoo is stale or boring. The Bronx Zoo is extremely fun and it’s much better going with friends. The food there varies from good to great depending on the occasion as well. There is something for everyone at this zoo. I rate the experience a 8.5/10. The only thing I don’t like about the zoo is the smell, but I mean it IS a zoo right? I highly recommend going if you haven’t.

NY Minute: Loneliness – Edgar Castillo

A few days after our last class it struck me: we really are alienated from each other in New York. I did some browsing and saw that it was an actual consensus that New York was a city in which strangers generally remained alienated. I even found out that amongst our many titles, “The Lonely City” is one that no one talks about. But why are we so filled with people yet no one really knows each other? After thinking about it for some time, I believe that it could do with how people don’t want to burden themselves with keeping a large group of people happy, or satisfied. This is because there is a strong sense of work yourself to near death culture in this community. How much harder would like be if you had to talk to every single person you saw and also keep in touch to make sure they are doing fine? In a small community this may be much easier as there is a much smaller group to deal with and that leads us to our “blocks”. In our blocks, most of us know the bodega cook, and some of the elders in the community. We know the kids that run around and cause trouble, and don’t. We know who’s who and how they are like. So I believe that while New York may be “The Lonely City”, it may not be nearly alienating as people may think.

New York Minute – Edgar Castillo

This picture is of Madison Square Park early in the morning a few months ago. I feel like this has a special connection to how I view New York because sometimes no matter how large this city is, and now many people are around, there’s usually a sense of isolation.
