The first good design example is provided by Heinz. They use short and clear sentence to communicate with audience, and the picture shows how fresh and tasty of their tomato ketchup. The second good design has a carrot and chopping board on it, but both of them were chop in many piece. Audience might not be able to understand the massage at very first time they saw it. However, once they notice a little knife locate on right bottom side, then people will realize this is an advertisement for knife.

The first bad design has a giant green face which will scare people and have negative feedback. The words overwritten on each other at top make audience difficult to read. Therefore, choose of font and structure turn this to a bad design. The second bad design is a logo, which the fonts are too fancy and difficult to see.

Bad design but could be disputed for good design. It does indeed convey the concept of a lawyer in your corner of the ring fighting for you however it does so in a very tacky manner so I guess this will work for a very specify crowd but if they wish to attract affluent people I doubt this will do the trick.

Bad design because apparently venmo is a company for transferring money but I would NEVER have gotten that from simply viewing the add for the first time. If the public does not understand what your product is, I think that is bad graphic design.

Good design because it is simple and yet fun while demonstrating what the product is. Additionally, I like the logo which has the photographers initials inscribed in a clever way inside the camera.

What is Graphic Design?

This article helped broaden my understanding of what goes under the umbrella title of “graphic design.” It is indeed, as stated in the article, everything. I used to think of graphic design as a job undertaken by an expert only for big “important” things like billboards or posters but now I see graphic design is used for little things like packs of gum too. In addition to this, it is fascinating to think of the amount of people involved in creating successful graphic designs. One must consider the product and the agenda of the sellers, the audience to whom the product is being delivered and many other factors. In considering this, graphic designers must work with photographers, typesetters, market researchers, and many others to successfully visually communicate messages.

I am curious what is the most important thing to keep in mind as a graphic designer? Is it more important to think of your client, of the audience, a balance of the two, or are both so deeply linked that no good graphic design could exist without weighing the two variables equally. I think both must be considered. The article even pointed out that graphic designers sometimes go the extra step and hire professional market researchers in order to fully bridge the gap between product and consumer. This is clearly a field in which work cannot be conducted in an isolated manner but rather must be open to ideas and inspiration from all around.

What is Graphic Design

Before I enrolled this class, I thought graphic design is very simple as combination of pictures and words. However, this professional area is more complicate than I could imagine. The decision for every single word and every piece of image will have directly impact to the true massage send from client to audience. Sometimes a picture could worth thousand words or few words could be better than any explanation. Even a type form could change few simple things to be real beautiful and amazing. In order to success in design, designer needs to be both creative and innovative.

My question to author would be what’s the purpose of graphic design, to satisfied clients’ needs or express of inner self? I believe all designer has full passion and interest on creation, and most of them had their own characteristic. However clients have different taste on art, so someone may or may not interest on particular style. However we can’t force people to like your design, but we must make sure the public understand it.

The message is very confusing. Space between lines is too small. Very hard to read. Way too much text. Juxtaposition of photographs is confusing.
