What is Graphic Design?

After I read the article, I realize that graphic design is really all around in our life.I understand some basic information about graphic design. Graphic design is interior design, or visual communication design. It is based on vision as a way to communicate and perform through a variety of ways to create and combine symbols, images and text, thereby making use to convey ideas or visual representation of message. Graphic designer may use typography, layout, visual arts, and other aspects of professional skills to achieve the purpose of the creation of the plan. Graphic design usually refers to the process of design, and the final completion of the works.

In the article, it mentions six types of designs: Typed-based design, image and type, symbols, logos, and logotypes. Usually graphic design are for logo ( trademark and brand ) , publications ( magazines, newspapers and books ) , print ads , posters , billboards , website graphic elements , logos , and product packaging. For example, trademark or other works of art which may include product packaging, the layout of text and pure design elements such as style uniform images, shapes and colors. Usually a designer use his/her best effort to create the best works for his/her client, but not the client knows or understand what the theme and inspiration about the design and only know that is beautiful. So, how designer explain in the common easy way to let the client to understand his/her design? I propose a possible answer can be: the designer should base the understanding of the client and using as simple as possible explain and leading the client to know why and how to get the idea of the design which fit what the client wants. If I were the designer, I would using simple, clear way to explain, bring out some example will be the good way to let client to understand.

What is Graphic Design?

To me, graphic design is the combination of shapes, colors, typefaces, images and words that cause you to react or feel something. It typically conveys a message, shines light on an issue, maybe solves a problem, expresses beauty or sets a feeling. I’ve always thought aestically, composition was one of the most important features of graphic design and key to a successful design. The reading quickly changed this opinion.

This article helped me to grasp what graphic design truly encompasses. The use of images, text, position and overall psychology to help reel in their audience are the main components to a successful design. What I love about design is that is goes hand-in-hand with psychology which is one of the main reasons why I made the decision to major in both Graphic Communication and Psychology to get a better handle on what the audience sees, wants and understands. The psychology behind the design influences how you perceive the idea and as a designer how you convey your message.

My question to the author is if there could be one essential trait behind a successful design, what would it be? So many factors contribute in the process of creating but what is it that one must always keep in mind? The audience? Perspective? Feeling? Message? No matter the answer, it will be subjective and it will depend on who is the audience and what is the message but if there is one idea that applies to all of the above, what is it? I want to know the key ingredient, the inside scoop!

What is graphic design?

The article helps me to understand what roles graphic designs play in this world as well as how designers communicate with audience using different tools of graphic design. The article reminds me that visual communication are really powerful as it exists all around us and affect every aspect of our perception. According to the article, there are two different type of graphic design in terms of it tool, image-based design and type-based design, and designers often combine them to communicate a client’s message to an audience. Personally, I’ve been only focusing on image when I think of graphic design and didn’t have enough knowledge of typography. From the article, I’ve learned that type-based design has such numerous precious options.

One thing I would like to ask the author about is the use of colors in graphic design. In my opinion, coloring might be the most difficult and important thing in all the design, whether it is image-based or type-based, even for a symbol and a logo. So I want to know how designers would decide the color of design and how much color could affect design. I believe designers might conduct enough research into each color’s characteristics before they use the color because it could change the audience’s perception either positively or negatively.

This article titled “What is Graphic Design?” really helped me to fully understand how graphic designer use images, text and fonts to pull their audience in. I have tried in the past to do some mediocre graphic design work but I would really like to lean how different fonts and sizes affect the overall perception of the message. This article made me really think about the psychology behind graphic design. From image-based, type-based and the hybrid of image and type designs, each has their very own way of most effectively communicating a message. I am really interested in logo designs and how to create works that are both visually appealing and effectively stick with the audience in the future.

The question I pose to the author is, how does psychology play into graphic design? I am aware that it is a major components of designing text, logos and visual imagery but what exactly does the audience respond to and how do graphic designers determine this? This aspect plays a huge role in how effectively the message you want to portray is administered.

What is Graphic Design?

This article helped broaden my understanding of what goes under the umbrella title of “graphic design.” It is indeed, as stated in the article, everything. I used to think of graphic design as a job undertaken by an expert only for big “important” things like billboards or posters but now I see graphic design is used for little things like packs of gum too. In addition to this, it is fascinating to think of the amount of people involved in creating successful graphic designs. One must consider the product and the agenda of the sellers, the audience to whom the product is being delivered and many other factors. In considering this, graphic designers must work with photographers, typesetters, market researchers, and many others to successfully visually communicate messages.

I am curious what is the most important thing to keep in mind as a graphic designer? Is it more important to think of your client, of the audience, a balance of the two, or are both so deeply linked that no good graphic design could exist without weighing the two variables equally. I think both must be considered. The article even pointed out that graphic designers sometimes go the extra step and hire professional market researchers in order to fully bridge the gap between product and consumer. This is clearly a field in which work cannot be conducted in an isolated manner but rather must be open to ideas and inspiration from all around.

What is Graphic Design

Before I enrolled this class, I thought graphic design is very simple as combination of pictures and words. However, this professional area is more complicate than I could imagine. The decision for every single word and every piece of image will have directly impact to the true massage send from client to audience. Sometimes a picture could worth thousand words or few words could be better than any explanation. Even a type form could change few simple things to be real beautiful and amazing. In order to success in design, designer needs to be both creative and innovative.

My question to author would be what’s the purpose of graphic design, to satisfied clients’ needs or express of inner self? I believe all designer has full passion and interest on creation, and most of them had their own characteristic. However clients have different taste on art, so someone may or may not interest on particular style. However we can’t force people to like your design, but we must make sure the public understand it.

what is graphic design?

The article made me think about the fact that everything around us is designed. Not only it is designed (versus just appeared thoughtlessly and effortlessly), it was actually put together by someone. Someone who with little or huge attempt created a visual message for hundreds, thousands or maybe even millions of people. Our world is so cluttered these days that we do not pay attention to most things around us. Only the most outstanding ones catch our attention. However there was actually someone behind all of those visuals, spending time and brain power to deliver the message to us. We take it for granted. When most people think about designers they think about fashion. Most people don’t even realize what a tremendous work lays behind all the album and book covers, flyers and magazine ads, website and signs, wrappers and stickers.

I would like to ask an author of an article if it is possible that all ideas were implemented already? If all possible designs were already invented and all techniques are exhausted, and we are simply running in circles, repeating each other’s work? I personally think that humans creativity is endless. People will keep creating and designing as long as they live and it will be becoming more and more interesting to observe.

what is graphic design

for me, this article highlighted the fact that everything and i mean everything in our lives required some sort of design. From a label on a jar of pickles to SpaceX’s new Dragon space craft and everything in between was thought out and developed by someone. There are good designs and bad designs. the good ones have all the right elements/ interesting visual that evokes particular emotion, the right typeface that helps support the particular message the designer is communicating. the use of music could also enhance designers message. bad ones usually fail to communicate what the designers initially tried to relay.

when working on a campaign or a project, does the graphic designer have any of the say so in decision making or does she just execute someone else’s idea? im guessing it depends on the project and the experience of the designer.

What is graphic design?

After reading the article, I’ve come to understand that graphic design is a process that incorporates images and words to communicate a certain message or idea. Two main tools involved in graphic designing are images and typography. Image-based designs can be in a form of a photo, hand-drawn pictures, paintings, or other graphically created images. Designers use images in order to convey, represent or portray their client’s message. Type-based designs is another way of conveying the message. Not only do words spell out the actual message, it can be manipulated to invoke a certain feeling or mood, or to just simply capture the audience’s attention. Logos, symbols, and logotypes are identifiers that can also be used to represent an idea or a message. It is the designer’s responsibility to use images, symbols, and typography to properly and creatively present their client’s message for the audiences.

Now that I now what graphic design is, a question I would like to pose to the author is, what kind of careers are available out there for graphic designers? Based on the article I can conclude that a graphic designer can work at a corporation’s marketing department, an ad agency, film industry, magazine agency, or a book publication agency. There are plenty of other possibilities but I wished the author pointed this out in the article to help guide young aspiring graphic designers to the right path of a career.

What is Graphic Design?

Graphic design is about communication, about conveying to the world a feelings, or statement. This article made me think about the different emotions and statements different graphic designs try to say to people or try to get them to feel. I think a lot of the art tries to get you to like and want their product or trust them enough to know what you’re getting appeals to you. And that it’s not just the image itself, it is about the wording, the structure, style and type because they also communicate to the person viewing the image. The colour, type of image and positioning of the words, images and size conveys everything the designer and mores the clients wants to say or project to1their consumers.

What do you think is the most important part of graphic designing? The most important part would be communicating what your clients want to say and doing it in an visually appealing way. You have to be able to make people want the product you are designing for. Every part of your design has to drawn the viewer in and appeal to them. And this means that that the design must be visually unity and form a cohesiveness that makes the art feel complete and finished. Every piece of the art that the graphic designer puts together, the elements should somehow work together.
