Each student must contribute at least one post per week, updating us on what you’re doing at your internship (if applicable) and the progress you’re making on your project. Your weekly posts should be 200-400 words of quality written English. You must demonstrate significant progress each week. You’re encouraged to post images. You’re also encouraged to comment on others’ posts, and to stay current with your classmates’ activities by following along. Please categorize your post by week (so, if it’s your first week’s progress, select the category ‘week 1 update’).
Blog contributors include: Michael Balmaceda (internship), Timberly Dinglas (Internship), Dana Jensen (independent study), Vera Kondratyeva (internship), Svetlana Milovidova (Internship), Stephanie Pimentel (independent study), and Emma Wells (independent study).
Hi, everyone. I’m Vera. I’m doing an internship at Decorative Traces Interior Design Company. It’s new and small company which has just few people working in it. The first week was very slow, cause they are moving to a new location, which is in DUMBO. The company has a lot of boards on Pinterest. During my first day i created a new one – Coastal, which very beachy, airy, has a lot of space and use a lot of pastel colors in interiors. Also because they are moving, the first day i worked from one of the designer’s apartment. I was able to see what the real designer apartment looks like and i can definitely say that she used the same style as she does in her work in her own home.
Hi, guys. Last week at my internship i created a document in Spreadsheets with list of different constructors and painters, which my designers are planning to work with, at least some of them. My first attempt was to make it as a document in InDesign and then create a PDF with active links to the websites, but they prefer Spreadsheets.
Another assignment i had was to find bolts for the tables at the new office. Online search didn’t go far, so i end up going to Home Depot in Manhattan, but they were also out of stock. Lucky for me Home Depot in Queens had everything i needed.
Last week was more productive that the previous one. The company I do my internship at has an online shop where they sell plates, glasses, vases, napkins and other household items. I did inventory of all the items they have in stock. Most of the items are vintage style. At the end of the day we were able to put shop up and running. While they were moving shop was down.
I also went to D&D Building, which stands for Decoration and Design, last week to find fabrics for chairs. I never been there and for the first timer it can be overwhelming. I spent there couple hours and I was able to find over 30 fabrics that I liked and client might like too. When I came back to the office one of the designers cut at least half of fabrics that I picked. Then I called D&D Building to find out the prices for the fabrics and created spreadsheet with the company name, type and code of fabric, phone numbers and prices.
