Today I took a walk basically from Jamaica to 14th street in the city. I started off the day by waking up early at 8 am to only get up the walk to the kitchen get a glass of water, but then fall asleep promptly after to only wake up at 11:00 am effectively speeding my plans up for the day. I jumped out of bed so quick when I saw the time that my feet clapped together. I rushed through my morning routine and was out of the house by 11:15 opting to skip breakfast to make up for the lost time. My first stop was the Jamaica avenue footlocker, I was going there today to pick up the retro Air Jordan Black Cement 3’s. But why would I place so much significance and importance on a sneaker that I would wake up early… On a Saturday! Well, this is because the Black cement 3’s are arguably the sneaker that saved Nike and definitely saved Jordan brand. You see back when Michael Jordan was still a fresh face in the league he had already signed a shoe deal with Nike. So far two shoes have released the Air Jordan one in its most icon colorway affectionately referred to as the “Bred 1” due to the fact that the shoe was black and red, Clever I know. And the Air Jordan 2 which no one remembers or likes because that’s the shoe Jordan broke his foot in and barely saw any on-court time. It was at this point that Jordan was considering leaving Nike as he felt he didn’t have the creative team behind him that he needed and didn’t like the previous shoes despite the popularity of the Air Jordan 1. This was a big problem as Nike and Reebok had similar shares in the market with Reebok actually beating them out at points. Losing mike could have meant losing everything relegating nikes to discount racks everywhere. Just as Mike was ready to call it quits in walks Tinker Hatfield. The man, the myth, the legend, the greatest sneaker designer of all time comes in and shakes up the game. He designs the first mid-cut sneaker that Michael had wanted all these years with new and interesting patterns like the elephant print leather that fan around the world fell in love with, and not to mention the Exposed air unit that captivated the eyes of all basketball fanatics with the hopes that maybe if they had the shoes like Mike they could be like Mike. You see now these shoes are not just shoes they are pieces of history and works of art this is why I woke up early walked about 20 minutes, bought my first pair… then proceed to clean house on every store from here to 14th street because each one nets close to $100 profit when you sell them aftermarket. #moneyway #therichforeverway #Spentitmakeitriback
