Women Finally Getting the Credit they Deserve – Chase Landow
In the New York Time’s Business section there is an incredible article entitled Young Women Are more Career-Driven Than Men. This article talks about women in the work force, and the surprising statistics that show new found female dominance in the professional world. Over the years there has been an increasing amount of women who are taking both their education and professions very seriously. In this article we are given statistics comparing polls from 1997 and 2010/2011 from the Pew Research Center. These researchers looked into career importance among both genders as well as the importance of marriage and parenting. We are shown that over these 14 years there has been a shift in the priorities for each gender; ranging from ages 18 to 34 and middle age adults from 35-64. Women are starting to prioritize the worth of their job as they also maintain their marital and familial duties. This data proves that since 1997, “men’s career ambitions have stagnated, while women’s have risen 10 percentage points.” There is also data showing that over the past few years there are a greater number of women enrolled in fine universities than men. It is nice to finally see the statistics that prove how our world is changing in a way that makes both genders more equal. I found this article very interesting and hope to learn more about this soon!
