Prof. Sheffer Wins Award

Congratulations to Adam Sheffer one of our newest faculty members in the Mathematics Department who was awarded an NSF DMS Combinatorics grant totaling $155,359 for a period of three years. Professor Sheffer came to Baruch College this academic year from The California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

Prof. Sheffer’s grant will allow him to explore polynomial methods and to use these methods to solve problems in discrete geometry. An important impact in his project is the opportunities of research projects for undergraduate students with various interest and its scope to encourage them to pursue careers in scientific research.

Prof. Holowzcak Wins Award

Congratulations to Professor Richard Holowzcak from the Paul H. Chook Department of Information Systems and Statistics who was awarded a sub-award totaling $89,451 from Rutgers University.

Professor Holowzcak in collaboration with Rutgers University received a grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide the scientific community, policy makers, and the public with the knowledge and predictive understanding necessary to conserve, protect, and manage the lower Hackensack River estuary’s ecosystems and the services they provide. Prof. Holowczak’s role in this three year project is to develop the software, database schemas and XML schemas necessary to integrate air and water quality sensor data into the EPA’s various exchange networks and data discovery tools.
