Hello, friends! Here’s the blog’s weekly feature “Read in NYC.”
This week, we toured around the city and visited comic book stores. Although all of the stores we visited are located on the second floor of the building, which makes it tricky to spot them if you are not a comic fan, they open up a new world even for those who had no knowledge of comic books. Filled with posters, figures and comic books, the store is a haven for tourists and New Yorkers who are looking for physical copies of manga in English. Here are some of the stores I visited this week:
Montasy Comics NYC

Montasy Comics NYC, located near Bryant Park, has a spacious room on the second floor of the building. After you ring the doorbell, you will be able to enter the store where two staff members will greet you kindly. Their name, Montasy, is a combination of “Mon,” a Chinese/Japanese word for dream, and “Fantasy.” Every side of the wall exhibits colorful comic books that are eye-catching.

They also have tables on which they have card games. As its name “Montasy” means, this comic book store fulfills the fantasy of those who love comic books.
Midtown Comics NYC

You have to walk up the stairs to get to Midtown Comics NYC, located in the Times Square area.

At the entrance, posters of comic book characters are plastered on the wall. With a lot of friendly staff members available at every corner, the store has two floors stocked with coloring books, comic books for kids and young adults, new comics, comics supplies and collectibles.

If you are an artist who love comics and want to learn how to draw, you will get lost in the store because it has everything you wanted.
Kinokuniya

Kinokuniya, located across the street from Bryant Park, is not exclusively devoted to comic books but has a selection of manga in English and Japanese on the 2nd floor.

If you have ever loved Doraemon, you will love this place. They have many Doraemon comics in English and Japanese. The store, which opened in 1981 at the Rockefeller center and moved to this location in 2007, stocks Japanese novels, books in English, and Japanese products. If you want to experience Japanese culture, you should add Kinokuniya to your visiting list.
