Summary

Describe your overall ability to pay attention when it comes to school work (<100 words)

On a scale of 1 - 10, indicate how addicted you are to you phones
It depends honestly on the assignment if I’m intrigued to be invested more into it. But majority of the time If it contains too much reading not of my interest then my attention span decreases way more. My addiction on my phone varies on the day but overall, I would say a 7.

While reading “My Distraction Sickness” please note how long it takes you to get through the piece (Google says it’s a 45 min read); also, count the number of times you get distracted (for whatever reason) and tally them at the end.
It took me an hour and 15 minutes to read. I kept on switching to different tabs and watching tv during the whole process. I got distracted 6 times.

Describe the tone of all three articles, how do they differ? (<100 words)
In the article Defense of Distraction, the author was informing the readers on his personal ideas on how technology has had a major impact on the people for the best and the worst. He stated he believed these distractions were a good factor for the people. In the distracted student the author created the piece based off a scientific argument and stating facts on the waves of technology, timing graphs. Lastly, my distraction sickness was a personal piece based of the authors own experience.
What are Sam Anderson’s primary arguments in defense of distraction? (see part III of In Defense of Distraction) Do you find them convincing? Why or why not (<150 words)
Anderson’s primary argument is explaining to his readers that distraction is a part of how we become focus. He doesn’t view technology as a big distracting but perceives it as normal factor of being human. It definitely got me thinking and convinced how focus is a “paradox”, he furthers his explanation with stating both focus and distraction the systole and diastole of your consciousness.

After reading all three articles, what are your thoughts on this “epidemic of distraction”? (<50 words)
I believe that our levels of distractions will only continue to grow as time goes on, for all age groups it will have its own effect on the people. It will only become harder for our young and new generations to remain a focus given all of our technology.
