- Which cases are your team responsible for completing? Here is a link to the case-team assignment list.
- Your case analysis write-ups should have the following sections:
- Executive summary: This should be a brief summary of your case analysis (note that this is not a summary of the case, but a summary of your case analysis). This should not exceed half a page.
- Key questions: Briefly present the key questions that need to be answered for this case.
- Problems/Challenges: Discuss the problems/challenges faced by the organization. Also explain why these are important problems/challenges.
- Alternatives: Present a list of alternatives. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative.
- Recommendations: Recommend a solution from your list of alternatives. Also discuss how your recommendation might change depending on changes in environmental and organizational conditions.
- References: List the citations of your sources here. You should have referred to at least six sources (a mix of trade press articles and academic journal/magazines). You should also cite these sources in-text. That is, wherever in your text you are using information from a source, cite it right there so that I know what information you are using from where.
- In developing your alternatives and recommendations, you can draw from any theory or framework that you might have learnt from other classes or you might have read elsewhere. Drawing upon external information (that is not available as part of the case) is essential to develop a comprehensive, well-rounded case analysis.
- Do not rehash details from the case itself in any of the above sections in your analysis. Do not quote directly from the case unless absolutely necessary.
- Late submissions will not be accepted. Due dates shown in the course schedule will be strictly enforced.
- Submissions should be made electronically through the ‘Assignments’ section in blackboard. One submission per team is sufficient. The report should be prepared in MS Word (or equivalent) and a .doc or .docx file should be submitted.
- File name should include first and last names of each team member.
- Include a title page with the list of team member names and the title of the case.
- All students must be prepared to discuss all case studies even if they were not assigned to prepare a case write-up. I will randomly call on students to discuss the case and answer questions about it.
- Here are some additional readings that might help you:
- Examples of theories/frameworks that can help you with your case analysis include Porter’s five forces model, SWOT analysis, Balanced scorecard, value chain framework, organizational ambidexterity, IT portfolio analysis and asset classes, etc. Note that these are just examples. You can use any theory/framework that you see fit (that you might have learnt from another class or from another source).
- Maximum length: 5 pages
