Many of you may see the name of my site, and think what does it even mean. Lifestyle of a cavewoman? That sounds absolutely crazy. I know a lot of people think that, but its kind of the way I live my life. I follow a paleolithic diet and a strict workout regimen consisting of crossfit. So for this how to blog post I decided I would choose something from one of my WODs (workout of the day).

How to…do a burpee.

What’s a burpee? Its a gymnastic move where you start standing up and then squat to the ground, putting your hands on the ground, then you kick out your feet, do a push up and then jump back up and clap your hands above your head. Sounds like a lot if going on doesn’t it, its a lot more simple than most think. Its also very similar to a typical move done in football practice, for any who have played or watched.

I’m going to explain the burpee one step at a time.

Step 1: Stand with feet should width apart, in a jumping position.

Step 2: Begin to squat by pushing your hips back and knees out, and reach hands to floor.

Step 3: Once your hands hit the floor, kick your feet out so you are in a push up position.

Step 4: Do a push up by lowering your body to the ground, and pushing it back up.

Step 5: Push yourself up off the ground and jump while clapping your hands above your head.

If you complete all steps as followed, you’ve officially done you’re first burpee! Congratulations! These things are tough, but stick with them and you will be in the best shape of your life.

3D Printing might just be the next big thing!  The way it works is you choose what you want to be “printed”, and the Maker Box prints out this plastic in circular motions with very thin layers. It may take some time because the small dice we did in class took about 20-30 minutes. And it isn’t exactly perfect either. The Maker Bot does mess up but this doesn’t mean I’m bashing on it. This is just a small step to something even bigger. Imagine in the future, the Maker Bot is able to print out eatable food. This could solve world hunger! I would love to have one of these in my house if it was just a couple of thousands of dollars cheaper ): . I would print out pendants and make my own necklaces!

Outdoor survival 101, plus it’s just pretty cool to make a torch.

To start, find one long and relatively thick branch or stick. In this case it is the bigger the better. Having a bigger stick means greater distance from the fire and your hand, also thicker means a greater margin of error for if the fire burns through the flammable material. Next get some fuel for the fire. In the wild, tree sap, and animal fat work well. This slows the fire down your torch will last more than a few seconds of burning. Next is the burning material like tree bark or clothes. Next you will also need something to tie your torch together like thick vines, roots, or if you’re prepare metal string. Finally something to start a fire like rocks, matches, or other branches.

So here’s the list of materials for your torch.

1.Thick branch

2.Burning Fuel

3.Flammable Substance

 

4.Tying Utensil

5.Ignition Device

Now here’s the steps.

1.Wrap your branch with your flammable substance and burning fuel. Leave space in between for airflow, because fire requires oxygen.

2.Tie everything together with your vines or string.

3.Light a fire on your torch. Rocks smashed against each other with enough force will create sparks, or one piece of wood spun on another will create enough friction for the wood to combust.

4.Make sure the fire doesn’t spread to your handle and your torch is ready.

Enjoy mastering fire like cave people before you.

 

Extra Tips.

Fire safety is no joke. Remember to have water nearby for emergency situations.

If your torch came out improperly, drop it, and douse the flames. Better to try again than burn yourself.

And for your zombie apocalypse uses, keep the fiery end near the zombies and the stick end by you!!!

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to play around with couple of different apple products ranging from iPhone to iPad and hence I also invested a fair amount of time learning to jailbreak these devices since jailbreaking is not something illegal but at the same time it can be used to pursue ill intentions as well. I feel it is important to know about jailbreaking since iOS is a very locked platform and lacks the elements of customization and also it is locked to the carrier and since consumers are paying such premiums to buy the devices, they should have the ability to customize and unlock it and hence jailbreaking comes into place.

Step 1; Connect your device to iTunes and back up your device as a fail safe option! Please refer to the screenshot for details:

 

Step 2: Download the latest version of Redsn0w according to your operating system and also download the iOS firmware your device is running on. Google the links for Redsnow and the firmware. Please refer to the screenshot on how to check your firmware version:

Step 3: Make sure your device is connected to iTunes and then turn it off. Now reboot the iOS device in DFU mode by following this short video:

Step 4: Once you are in DFU mode, launch Redsnow.Click Browse and select the firmware you downloaded. Refer to the screenshot:

Step 5 Make sure  “Install Cydia” is checked off and anything that might interest you. (Cydia is the key for jailbreaking so make sure it is checked off). Refer to the screenshot:

Step 6 : Click next and wait for your iOS device to boot .

Step 7: All DONE! You iOS device is now jailbroken!

During my working experience, I’ve had the opportunity for developing and designing a few databases for my work unit. I think that databases are great for tracking, reporting and presentations purposes because they allow users to create and automate reports in a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

In order to create a database, first we will need to create a table with the information that we want to work with, the table contains columns and rows (as an excel sheet) that will assist users to input the data needed for the software.

Second, once we have created several tables with the information needed, we will need to create relationships in order to link tables together and also to ensure data integrity. This part can be complicated because there are different types of relationships that a user can apply in MS Access. The most common ones are “One to Many” and “Many to Many”, these two relationships allow users to relate data from different tables in order to link information together.

Third, create queries, this step is also a little complex because in order to create queries we need to know the structure of the database and what kind of data we would like to connect or show to users.

Finally, we will need to create forms; the forms that you create will need to look friendly to users. In other words, the form will need to look nice and simple so that users can find it attractive an easy to input data in the system.

 You can also create reports, modules, macros, or even apply some codes through Visual Basis Studio. But that would need a little more that this blog to explain and understand this computer language. I have attached a Youtube Video that would help you to understand this in further.

After seeing the 3d print demo I didn’t instantly thing it would be the next thing. While people will be able to print actual objects they won’t be able to print things such as technology. Also, people are very lazy to be able to print some truly amazing things people would have to think on an engineer’s level. I don’t really want a 3D printer at home home unless it could print something I could use in my everyday life I’m too old for toys sadly. With 3D printing we can make sense with what we’ve read before that this is definiyly the rise of a new community or a popular trend that could rise soon and become a worldwide fad only time will tell.

Technology’s non stop evolution has reached the point where we have 3d printing, the ability to transcend dimensions that was just out of reach. I firmly believe that this is a step in the right direction that will allow for much greater possibilities not only on a more generic population level, but also on global, or even an interstellar level. The ability to create a variety of objects of previously difficult to handle materials allows for greater micromanagement of other technologies, the creation of new technologies, and even the ability to modify existing technologies to better conform to our needs. For example, satellites and space stations have problems replacing damaged or none functioning parts for lack of resources, but something like this or something on a more advanced scale and solve problems like these. However, the greatness of this is not without its drawbacks and limitations. While there are many possibilities for 3d printing, so are there hindrances for it. Many I see already would be its ability to balance general safety with creation capabilities. Materials like steel or other metals come with inherent risks due to their high melting points and even toxic qualities. Most importantly is the requirement of knowledge to operate this machine and how to distribute it to the market population.

Personally I am partially interested in owning current 3d printing. The uses would be purely recreational and so the price tag that comes with it would definitely outweigh my desires for one. When a more consumer friendly version that contains an affordable price tag, a more user friendly interface, lesser printing times, and a more developed usable material selection is created, I think I would have one at home. My plans for it would be to create plastic model figures that I currently build as hobby, and whatever modifications I feel possible for existing things I own. I prefer makeshift things to solve problems, but mentally i would feel more content with something that seemed more professional.

Finally, in regard to our class 3d printing is a prime example to new media. As professor Gershovich has shown us, a whole community like Thingiverse exists where people can share their innovations with 3d printing. Its a new form of expressions and it allows for an almost previously undone way of communication. The ability to give physical form to images from ones mind is equivalent of written words being the form of thoughts.

My final thoughts would be that 3d printing is only a steeping stone to something greater. A prototype to something greater. 3d printing now is an incomplete work, but there is definitely  a place for it in the future and more importantly a place for it now.

I think the 3D printing was an awesome thing to watch. Although creating things has been around for centuries, when and where else can you create objects in your house while you get a new cup of coffee? I think from making trinkets you can go on to creating anything you can think of is pretty amazing.

Marshall McLuhan wrote this in 1967. And he was only talking about the influence of television on the way young people behave and learn. Today the age of the television has been run over by the ‘Information Age’ including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, iPhones, Blackberry, Androids and so on.

But if we look at education in the classroom it still involves reading textbooks, answering questions at the back of the chapter and so on. Are we preparing our students for this world is the question that keeps coming in my mind…

Are you tired of paying skyrockets cellphone bill?, have you ever consider to change your mobile carrier? Well i did!!, and merge with MetroPcs as a resolution of saving money, because other major carries like Apple, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon had been overcharging me for services of  new technology that  i didn’t even use nor needed.

Since my membership on 2009 with MetroPcs i haven’t got any complaints of their services, especially my pocket!. which spends $720.00 YEARLY for full features like 4G, unlimited calls, unlimited text, unlimited local and oversees calls, Insurance, WiFi connection  and other commodities, that I considered most important of personal use.

Although, some people may think that Metropcs is a very cheap choice to get, and that their mobile devices are likely to be like that as well, lacking of a high speed internet & signal, I do respect that type of opinion, but for me spending my money wisely in things that i mainly use, were more important to me, rather than to have and pay for a brand of carrier which do no understand my needs, when service and saving money is implied, thus this tough times of the economy, where none of the political party will not warranty any economical stability, but bills to be paid, and cellphones is part of that.

MetroPcs has officially confirmed the launch of the one of the latest Android technology to their brand on October 2012, making MetroPcs the cheapest carrier bringing the highest technology available to a good, and convenience price! I have to say that every year technology is pushing to change that stereotype of thinking of “cheap things and bad services, out of updated technology” with carries like  Metropcs, and how good is it with bringing it with the Samsung Galaxy S3.

I cant wait to have my soon!

This assignment gave me a chance to think about education from a totally new perspective. I always thought high school was boring and tedious. McLuhan gave me an answer to that thought that why was it boring and what can be done now to make it interesting.

I really enjoyed researching about this topic and collecting statistics related to informational technology. Overall it was a great experience.

Unfortunately I was unable to attend class to see the 3D printer in action because of a bad virus. I do not believe that a 3D printer will be popular among the general public but it may be popular in fields such as architecture, engineering, and marketing. These fields require physical representation of the innovative ideas they came up with. As far as the general public goes, I do not believe that your average person will invest their money on a machine that will not do more than print toy like objects. Don’t get me wrong this is an incredible step forward in technology but there is a difference between photos that can be printed countless times with ease where as 3D print outs take time depending the size of the job. The average person is not patient especially when it comes to technology.

During this past Monday i was impacted by the 3D printer by Makerbot that thanks to this class and the professor efforts, we were the first CUNY University, which were able to experience the next big thing! of the 3D printing technology.

I do consider that this type of printer will revolutionize the printing system of not only black and white nor color prints, in a simple blank paper of  8×11″. It will change to the point of  “everything you imagine, you are able to make it your own,  at the convenience of your home “ like a toasting a slide of bread instantly!

It will make much easier to people to create stuff with the unique requirement of a computer (Mac or Windows), and just click in the “replicator G” (replicator software), and VOILA! ready to go! your creation is done!.

The replicator, will specially advantage  to students in the architecture, design  and  engineering field, by saving them money for the purchase of expensive objects of their projects*(1) , but it is available to everyone whom can afford it.

I currently can’t afford one of this Makerbot 3D printer, However, i do think the possibility of having one in the future, since I like to create things in my own, and when i was  a kid i was a fan of  LEGO.

Although, if I could have one now,  I could see my self  back reviving those moments and exiting feeling of creating stuff that I can imagine, and show to the people the outcome of my weird creativity, and what a satisfactory sensation is that! wow i just can’t wait to have one (hoping in few years to price decrease its value)
