The 3D printer was something new for me. When the professor mentioned in class a few weeks ago, I was amazed by imaging a printer that can make things, wow. But the best thing was seeing it in action. I think this new initiative of printing things in 3D will create a huge impact in the market once it passes through quality assurance tests in order to convert this item into a consumer good. I believe the market will react in a positive way towards this new way of printing opening doors for new manufacturing companies to start making these printers. In my opinion, I would definitely buy one of them once they become more affordable for my pocket. J I will use it to print all kind of stuff, such as building models, little toys, statues, etc. I also think that a great part of the market where this printer will cause sensations will be in the family market. Just imaging parents buying these printers to be able to print any toy that their children want. This is something big. In addition, I think this new way of printing relates to what we’ve reading in class about Manovich because printing in 3D has the five elements that characterize something as a form of new media.

I may be the only one to respond like this, but to be honest the 3D printer scared me. I like technology, but technology I know I can control. The 3D printer to me seems a little out of control. Since, we are living in a technological world, I think the 3D printing demo will be the next big thing of the future. Many people could do their job easily like engineers, constructors and designers . Also, people at their home could fabricate their own stuffs and kids their own toys, which is the part I like. Probably, as a mother I could save some money while my son creates his own toys. However, I wonder how economy will be affected by people creating their own stuffs and kid their own toys rather than buying them from other people or companies.

With every example and fact I had in my mind about the thesis statement, I found myself more lost than the beginning. I was frustrated and get some help from the professor and worked my way out. Writing this essay wasn’t very difficult. The first blog assignment was very helpful regarding to the first class assignment.

For this assignment, I made a draft first and then showed it to professor. His comments helped me organizing the paper more clearly.

For the assignment I feel that there are  so many great quotes which was making it difficult for me to pick one. I also feel that it would be very great for our paper if we have discussed Williams before in the class.

Overall, the assignment was very fair.

In the medium is the massage, I got amazed how relevant and truthful the information was given by Marshall Mcluhan from his point of view, of the rapid changed of the world in where we live, how the people, the environment, the life style, the behavior, and the basic needs of our society, since the evolution from the baby steps of writting up to the mass media of todays date.

Mankind, has been challenged with the “new era of the new times” on where the new needs, pushes to new technologies, creating new devices to satisfy such needs.

It is unbelievable how McLuhan could predict in a precisely manner since the 1960’s,  how the Electronic technology era, would be a powerful tool of media, that people basically could not live with out such as the T.V,  radio, railroads, Planes, Cellphones, Computers, I pads, I pods, etc, and many other devices which has evolution in such manner that apparently mankind can not live with out and makes the electronic era control our life since everything is moved and done by so.

Well… as almost all of you guys already know, the new iPhone 5 is being sold to the public tomorrow. What do you think about it? Do you find any interesting features that can help customers in their everyday lives? In my opinion, the new iPhone 5 is the best phone out there yet. However, it’s not different enough from my 4s. So bottom line, I’m not fully convinced to buy the 5.

I did a very liberal take on my paper I think I did less of a understanding paper and more of a plethora of ideas that came out. I think I tried to dissect less and put my own take on what McLuhan was saying. I didn’t do any outlines, I tried to do it once, but I didn’t like the restrictions that I placed on myself. I think it was extremely difficult to write the essay because I based it on three sentences. I actually loved the quote and felt it was very personal. But it was very hard to describe the process.

When writing papers I can never type up a draft, I must always hand write it. I do this because I feel that if I type up a draft as I type I will be stuck in front of my laptop for hours because I edit my draft as I type it. Therefore I hand write it with a pencil so I can go back and add or subtract from my writing. I used ideas from my own experience and ideas I learned in class. The illustration I wrote about made me think a lot about my own experiences which made the paper something fun and good to reflect on.

Choosing a specific topic to talk about McLuhan’s book was not an easy task. The Medium is the Massage mentions lots of changes in media and society that were occurring in the 1960s. The way how I developed my idea to talk about the transformation in communication throughout the years was by focusing in the statement that struck me form McLuhan, when he stated that “everything is changing, you, your family, your neighborhood, your education, your job, your government, your relation to “the others”. And they are changing dramatically.” This topic helped to understand that McLuhan had clear perspective of the world and changes that were going on in society. I developed and outline to determine what were the main points that I wanted to develop and described in my paper. I chose to talk about the changes in communication and the impacts in our social lives. To develop an argument with these topics was challenging, society in constantly changing the way how it communicates a message and media has been part of this evolution by being the way for society in order to transmit the message. Finally, I was able to have my ideas in order and I started writing some draft papers to see how my thoughts were having coherence through the writhing exercise. Something that helped me was to have a good introduction with a clear thesis in order to address the issue and give specific examples to support my ideas.

For this paper i wasn’t sure if I wanted to go along with the statement I had chosen for the previous assignment, or choose another statement altogether. After spending 30 minutes on choosing between 5 different statements and making small outlines about what I can write about, I still had nothing interesting. So I picked a random number, went to that page in the book, selected the first 4 sentences of the passage, and I just stuck with it.

It wasn’t a bad idea at all. The statement was better than the other ones I was thinking about choosing. It made writing the paper easier. The statement regarded the “electric information environment” and how it causes us to become connected with each other. I immediately thought of Facebook and Twitter and the ease of staying in touch and knowing just about everything that is happening, from the weather outside to situations outside of our country.

McLuhan was a “media Nostradamus”. He predicted that mediums (e.g Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr) would be used to know too many things about too many people. And he is correct.
