I am going to write about one amazing, extremely talented and popular guy named Matthew Woods. I met him when I was working at the Royalton hotel. I think weird people see each other from far away, so we immediately became friends.
Matt knows how to draw wonderful pictures, decorate houses in very unusual but stylish ways and come up with new fabulous ideas for clothes. He maintains two pages on Instagram. On the first one he posts pictures from his daily life: parties with friends, cozy time with his fiance, breathtaking views of New York City, his drawings and many other interesting things. Every image in his page is artistic and full of meaning. Analyzing his Instagram profile, you would say that Matt is a deep person, who looks at the world from the philosophical perspective.
His second page @hallowwoods is about pumpkin head and his (I consider “it” as a human being) journeys. In one image pumpkin head is hanging out with Betty White; in other – going crazy with bunch of cats, saying “These pussies not only grab back, they bite!”, in third – celebrating Christmas with Krampus. On our last meeting with Matt we were discussing how cool it would be to come up with digital and printed fairy tales, where pumpkin head would explore the world, meet new friends and make our life brighter.
Instagram is ideal media platform for Matthew: he can express his talent, share his wonderful work with other users, follow other artists and maybe create his own reality, where pumpkin head runs the world. I think Matt’s art work helps him to cope with everyday problems like travelling to work, paying bills, dealing with annoying customers and getting older. He shares his art with other people to show them that life is not that serious and we should always keep a curious child inside of our hearts.
I am in my mid-twenties and Matt is in his early thirties. We are far away from creating and maintaining fake accounts. Matt promotes his art work on Instagram and, of course, he uses his real name and even provides link to his official website. He also has a Facebook page but he barely uses it, because it’s no fun.
“The Internet is another element of the computer culture that has contributed to thinking about identity as multiplicity. On it, people are able to build a self by cycling through many selves(Turkle 178).” On my Instagram page I can be a crazy cat lady, fun party girl, classy woman with perfect hair cut, fabulous makeup artist or enthusiastic traveler. It’s all me.
“Despite the negative framing of online communications, some researches saw far more positive things happening in online communication as it expanded in usage throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Participants in online forums we seen to compensate for the lack of social cues by expressing themselves in new ways, such as the early use of emoticons to provide a graphical representation of the mood of the writer (Athique 69). I think people became more honest and open about their lives. They feel more responsible for their own words and actions, because they use their real names and other people can see them. They are comfortable with sharing their emotions, political views, looks and art work.
Questions:
- How can you describe your Instagram Page?
- Do you have your main social media identity?
Very interesting read. I would describe my Instagram as a curation of daily content that I feel portrays my life and personality through photography. I specifically post certain pictures to my page to maintain a certain aesthetic, making it a page I would follow if it wasn’t me running it.
My main social media identity is my own, as well as my business accounts that I operate. I differentiate the two but I try to sustain a large social media presence.
Interesting blog post. I would just like to say that there will always be a positive and a negative to everything, whether it seems great or horrible, whether it is online or real life.
Now, answering your questions:
My Instragram page is a reflection of certain things I do, things I find funny, things I find important, and sometimes positive quotes. You can find photos and videos of me at music festivals, tropical places, etc. You can also find memes, which I find funny. I also sometimes post images that touch base on important issues, and quotes to lighten my day and the day of others.
I do not have a main social identity, I’m just myself and try my best to not post negativity, like personal problems and such.
You blog post about Pumpkin head, centered on Matthew Woods, presents the best way we can make use of social media. Maintaining two Instagram accounts serves Matt a good deal of striking a balance between his real life and artistic life. The other Instagram account about pumpkin head and his journey gives Matt a better way of advancing his creative life that gives his audience the other view of him.
My Instagram page is mainly about me and everything adding up to my life. It is a reflection of my life experiences, interests, and funny things to me in form of catchy photos of me and my friends, videos, memes, images and quotes that interests me.
Yeah, I do have my main social identity which is embodied entirely in almost all my social media platforms. I like being true to myself and for that case, I tend to showcase my real me to the world, given that am one open person.
Interesting blog!
responding to your questions.
How can you describe your Instagram Page?
– In my Instagram account I post mostly about my trips or places I visit. I love traveling so my main focus is on those. I used to post pictures of food but I do not do it anymore. Sometimes I share some quotes.
Do you have your main social media identity?
– I do not have a main social media identity. Now, I am interested in learning photography so I am starting to post pictures taken by myself. In a way I could say I want to start to construct this identity. As I mentioned in the other question I post more about my trips so the persona I want to show in social media is as a traveler.
