I wanted to get someone to take a look at my resume which I though was abysmal, so I tried to get an appointment with someone at the STARR center but the person wasn’t available. I decided to go in for a walk-in instead, and have them take a look at the resume I had made recently, as I had never needed a resume up until then. When I got there, the lady signed me in and asked me to wait in the front “lobby.” Soon a fellow student called me in and we took a look at our resume. It wasn’t the worst essay to have come through, I think, but it got of to a rough start as it printed t0o small. Apart from that, we went over my previous work history, which was just me being in the background of films. We spend the majority of our time trying to find connections between extra work, and an internship with a finance company. Our session took place in the same time as the other reviewer had gone through about 3. About midway through, she asked for help from another reviewer as they had never seen my particular case of being involved in theatre, and film and wanted to get a finance internship. They told me about adding a objective statement about how my previous experiences would apply to a financial world. We talking in detail about what it was like to be on set, and in what ways the set taught me things I could put on the resume. We talked about various technology related things I could also put down on my resume such as softwares I’m currently learning. Looking back on my days in High School, some part of me wishes I had done some extra curricular activities, but at the same time now is a perfect opportunity for me to start joining clubs related to the business field.

I am in this network here at Baruch called the Success Program. We initially got invited into this program in August 2 weeks before school. We had to attend a 3-day boot camp from 9-6. While this seemed like an unnecessary waste of time it was a great benefit to me for these past months in adjusting to college and helping me figure out my true career desire and choice. I now know a 100% that I want to go into the real estate field for my career and declare my major as a real estate major. I have had a peer counselor from the success program help me edit and revise my resume to reflect more of my skills and past experience relating to Real Estate. My peer counselor also recommended that if I had the time I should consider taking classes this summer to get my real estate agent license. He recommended I get my regular real estate license now so that in the near future I have that out of the way and I can then get my broker’s license. These tips over time has led me to do more research and find out more and learn more about all the qualifications and experience I need to get an internship during or towards the end of my sophomore year. I have now since been watching some of the real estate moguls such as Gary Cordane on YouTube that my peer mentor has recommended me to watch. Having the success program peer counselors there to assist and recommend different things to me has helped me in a positive way leading more towards my dream career. The success workshop has held 3 other general workshops to help everyone who hasn’t met with their peer counselors to help them with their resumes as well.

Career Post
For my third and final blog post I chose to reach out to the STARR program at Baruch. I have made a STARR account, and created a meeting with an advisor. I tried to schedule this meeting before the post was due, but the only time slot available was shortly after. Instead of a meeting, I did research and prepared myself for my meeting.
For this meeting I created a preliminary resume that looks nothing like I would like. I put all my past work experience, my skills, and education. I need to find a way to make it look nice, and what looks better to put on my resume to attract employers. I also filled out my STARR account to my knowledge. This included much of the same information as my resume.
Overall, this program will create a strong foundation for me in the business world and help me make connections. This is career oriented because creating a STARR account alone will link me with job opportunities. I have yet to make a good resume and I am excited to have a useable resume. Having a good resume will let me apply for jobs, internships, and will open other opportunities.

Olivia Lesniewski American Museum of Natural History
I have not been to this museum in a long time. My childhood had been spent in this museum. What I remember the most from it is that there was a grand whale in the sea section hanging above the people. I had always wondered how it was able to be suspended without ever falling down. I remember being little and vowing to myself that I would come back to see if the whale had fallen down. I now had another opportunity to visit this place. I felt like a little kid again. The sharks that had always scared me were still there. The cool rocks from outer space still were on display and even better than I had remembered.
I lied down on the floor underneath the whale and looking up at it. I seemed to think how big the world was to me 10 years ago. I was afraid the whale would fall on me but being the person and age that I am now the magic of the place had vanished. I was not afraid of the whale anymore because I knew the physics behind it being held up. I was not afraid of the sharks on display crashing through the glass because I knew they were not real. The space rocks and purple crystals do not have magic alien powers, they’re specimens of science.
Growing up is taken into account through visiting old childhood places like the American Museum of Natural History. The animals do not seem to come alive anymore like they did in the movies. The cavemen were not going to make a motion during the night time. The wonders and curiosities as a child made the displays at the museum so lively and hoping that they came alive once everyone left the museum. The case of growing up loses the magic that comes along with each museum visit. It becomes educational instead of magical.
BLOG POST 3
Last week my classmates and I took a visit to the Marketing Career Expo on the 3rd floor. Through this experience we gained lots of valuable knowledge and information. We learned a range of things from how to present yourself to others, to what we should be saying to make the best impression on people. This career experience set us up for success later in our lives with interviews and job opportunities. The people hosting this event exhibited all of the successful qualities they wanted to implement into us and it was evident that they were well endowed in their skills. After witnessing all of the people we presented ourselves to a plethora of job opportunities and companies that could hire us. Towards the closing of all of this opportunistic exposure event we pitched our last approaches then left to start another day with these newly acquired skills.
Freshman Seminar 3- Career
For my third and final blog post I decide to go and visit the Staar Career Center in our school to begin to work and finish up my resume that I had once create when I applied for my first job. I started working my first real job last year at a warranty and customer service establishment in Brooklyn, and had to give in a resume. It was my first time making one and I used basic outlines online to help create mine. I decided that I wanted to make mine better because I had this free and easier option right in front of me. When I went to work with an advisor in the office they helped me fix things up that I didn’t have and taught me how to include key things like past jobs and how to get rid of some things that weren’t as important. After this visit I feel like the Staar Career Center is a place I will be visiting frequently because they offer a lot more things that can help me in my future career such as mock interviews for which I will use my resume that I created with the advisor. I like the Career center because they make you feel comfortable when writing your resume and they try to make sure that it is perfect for any job. I also began to add a lot more skills that I have gained through the year onto my resume with the advisors they told me to also add languages I speak, if I know how to use any computer programs, and if I am certified in any program such as Adobe, which I happened to have a certificate in and didn’t add it on my first one. They also told not to add any personal details such as my age and any other information like relationship status etc. I never really knew prior to that it was something you shouldn’t add. Overall I feel like this experience will really help me with future jobs down the line.
Basic Resume we started with and worked on.
Career-Helena Brankovic
Last Tuesday I went to the Starr Career Development Center. I went there to schedule an appointment for working on the resume. Firstly, the lady that works there gave me the paper where it says how schedule an Online Appointment. So I took my computer logged in and then found out that the dates that they have don’t work out for me, so I asked are there any other hours that I can come and she said that later that day between 3:00pm and 4:30pm they have walk-in hours for Brief Consultations. I came back later and went inside for my brief consultation. I brought my kind of resume that I made few days before that. I was very unsure what am I suppose to write down and what am I not suppose to. I was confused mainly because I don’t have much of experience because I didn’t have time to work in high school and I just started college. She explained to me that there are several types of resumes depending on what are you applying for. Also she told me that there are few information that must be included in every resume which are the contact information, dates and locations, education, experience and skills. She also gave me some advice what should I delete from the resume that I wrote and what to keep. She pointed out for me some other categories that I might add into my resume if I can fill them with my achievements. All in all I think that this was very rewarding experience because they definitely helped me with my starting resume. I will go there few more times for sure, and I am very glad that we have this opportunity at school, to get someone to help us with these stuff. I would highly recommend everyone to go there and visit.
Career Post
Going into college I wasn’t nervous to actually start my four years, but, what was to come after them. I didn’t know how I was going to used my degree to find a job. If I did find a job how do I act on an interview? what do I wear ? What kind of questions will I be asked? Do I need a resume? What do I put on a resume? My scruples were eased when I found out the new friends I made at school had the same concerns. We wanted to know how we could us Baruch as a helpful resource. I was told that I could go to the career center and set up a mock interview with someone who knew everything about the adult-job world. Luckily my friend works at the center and was able to give me my interview. I brought in a resume in which I included my past experiences, work ethic, resources, etc. I was then asked a series of questions on my availability, my past experiences, why I wanted to work there and what other interests I had. I was confused why a job would want to know what I enjoyed to do outside of work. It turns out certain jobs like to see that a person does not make their life centered around work. The mock interview was extremely helpful and assuaged my uneasiness about going out to find a job.
Ilan Moreyn Career fair Hillel tech fair
Recently, I attended the Hillel Tech fair on Thursday during club hours. I dragged along one of my friends with the promise that she would get free food if she attends the event. Luckily, she decided to tag along for the food. Once we got there, around 1225, there was already a line coming out of the multipurpose room. We waited on line for about ten minutes, while everyone inside was preparing the event for us. Once we got into the front of the line, we had to fill out a form and they gave us a folder and a piece that I think gave us everyone that attended the fairs name and company. Once we got in, the first thing we did was wait on another line for the food. They were serving a great variety of food, such as falafel, chicken sandwiches and different kinds of spreads, like hummus and salads. The food was actually pretty good. Finally, after waiting for about another ten minutes, everyone got to their seats and the presentation began. A lot of people went to the event in the hopes of trying to land an interview. I went to the event in the hopes of getting some business cards to reach out to people when I go to search for internships in the future. There were a few prices scattered around the room, which sadly, I could not find. After staying for a little longer, my friend and I decided to leave. Overall, it was time well spent learning about different start up companies.
Blog Post 3
For Blog Post Number three, I decided to go to the Starr Career Center and learn how to create a professional resume. This was a little tricky for me because I am so used to “Artistic resumes”. Artistic Resumes are strictly used for auditions and pre screens. On these types of resumes you need to follow a very specific format. At the top of your page you have your name, weight, height, eye color, measurements, phone number, email, and agency contact information. Below that you separate your previous experiences under subtitles of training, professional work, film, commercial, print, and modeling, etc. This professional work resume was different because I realized no body in the workforce cares about my height or weight. When I went to the career center I learned that I need to have an objective. An objective on a resume is usually two sentences stating what position I am looking for and what type of career I want to have. In a concluding sentences I need to write what skills I have and what previous experience I have that makes me qualified for the job. After this meeting, I realized that I am highly underqualified to be applying to real jobs because I have only had jobs regarding performing arts. This resume meeting was quite helpful and I’m glad I attended it because now I feel more prepared for applying to a real world job.
