Changes in your writing process.

I remember one of the first meetings in this class, as a part of writing warm-up, we had to write how we feel about writing. And I said “having English as a second language, sometimes it does limits your thoughts, because of having the fear of ‘what if its not the right way of writing’. I have taken different English tests, for example TOEFL. Where we would have reading, talking, listening and writing. Always the highest score I would get in writing, but also, I knew I can improve even more my writings. I was missing something.” Throughout this semester I improved the flow throughout the process of writing and research.

I improved my paragraphs with dialogue method. While doing any piece of writing, I struggled when structuring my essay, I couldn’t follow the rhythm of my essay. By having that imaginary conversation (dialogue method) and answering each question of this method I know my way and I always now what comes next. Ex. In project 3 I talked about literacy (the point), how literacy affects illiterate people(I don’t get it), the importance and benefits of literacy (prove it) and why we need to help them overcome illiteracy (so what).

I learnt that research is as important as the whole essay, there is no writing process without research. As part of research, readings lead me to create annotated bibliographies. (citation, summarizing, evaluation). They would give me new ideas and supporting sources of my topic sentences of the paragraphs. Project 3 ex. In the ABC article “Living in the Shadows: Illiteracy in America”. This helped me as a second source to support the answer of one of question of the dialogue method (I don’t get it). ‘Literacy it is a life and death issue, illiteracy affects your health in so many different ways’.

Having annotated bibliographies and dialogue method on the other hand, helped me improve my paragraphs overall.

This semester I built my writings confidence overall, and therefore I can write whatever the discipline is about, and I can write all my thoughts, there is no more “what ifs”.
