In this semester, I got to do a lot of writing while trying to use one of the methods, so I could get to express the purpose of those writings. I’m going to analyze “project 3” while using the method of ethos/pathos/logos.
When I first started my third project, while designing my ad and collecting annotated bibliography, I thought using ethos/pathos/logos method was going to bring the best out of this piece of writing. Persuading the audience of my ad which were illiterate adults, also on the other hand, convincing the American Literacy Council why my ad deserves to be part of their campaign. When using logos, I gave reasons why it is important to help overcome literacy among illiterate adults in the U.S by saying “32 million illiterate adults it’s a large number and we have to contribute with programs to reduce this number, so it can help us as a whole society: development of society, reduce poverty, peace, but also help them individually in health, empowerment”. I used ethos when talking about the importance of literacy, from “Dr. David Baker of Northwestern University, ‘Literacy it is a life and death issue, illiteracy affects your health in so many different ways’. Pathos appeal to emotions, and I used it throughout my paper. Part of pathos was a 45-year-old woman and her difficulties while being illiterate. She avoided to see a doctor out of fear she would have to fill out a medical form or read a prescription and how literacy have affected her health, “My health is poor now, but I really believe that’s because I never went to the doctor and had my physicals and stuff that I should have had”.
Ethos, pathos, and logos are one of the methods used to persuade the audience however I also can apply implicit/explicit/extended meaning and rhetorical questions context methods in this paper.
