For our final reflection (no matter which option you choose), it is important to consider what you value about writing rather than cumulatively trying to do it all. In other words, think hard about what you want out of writing, what you prioritize most.
In that spirit, review each of the following:
- previous moments where you set or thought through goals or things you value in writing (e.g., previous Learning Modules, Process Writing on Blackboard or Discord)
- the 4 course goals on syllabus
- different goals you might be thinking about now

In a comment below, choose at least 1 goal or value about writing with data from any of the above bullet points and comment below with a note on why you value it.

I value using data in writing to prove a point. I think this class was helpful in teaching me ways that I can better take research, and other works and use them descriptively.
I think this is something I value because of how useful it is. By being able to produce better writing based on data, I feel that I can better persuade or educate readers on a topic. I also think there is always room to improve and write better, whether it is just an email, a report, or a paper. Working on these types of skills feels very important.
I value using data in writing to bring up strong evidence on what my topic is. This class taught me to look for data that is representative, data that is not seen in the surface level but rather with critical thinking and deep analysis.
I also value the information I find when doing research on the topic I am writing about. I learned through my assignments to think outside the box. I really value this because it has allowed me to be more knowledgeable and to consider as many aspects before making a point in writing. I believe this is important because it allows for more inclusiveness and can educate my readers to have a more open mind.
Going into the course, I thought it was most important to use research only, but after reflecting on some of my papers and your comments, I think I should also use my own voice a little more. I think the data part is important, but when I am analyzing it I can use that part to let my own voice shine through and offer my perspective. I think that will be a goal for me moving forward because people can find data just as easily as I can, but what would keep them interested would be what I have to say about it. I think my writing would be more effective that way as well.
Completing Learning Module every week gradually became one of my habits. Even though this week Learning Module is not required I still want to get it done completely. The process of doing Learning Modules helped me a lot during the course. As they brought me step by step and explained everything that needed to be used in the assignments, it helped me prepare the materials for next assignment, it is way so much easier and clearer for me to understand the concepts deeper.
The overall experience of the learning module was new and interesting to me. It helped me to understand the material of the course by breaking into tasks. The instructions was easy to follow and execute. It played a great role in preparing me to write effectively in my research papers.
One of the most valuable thing that I have learn from this course was the importance of writing paper based on the questions my readers would ask me while reading. After I complete my paper drafts, I tried to read from the place of my audience. I realized a whole different prospective of writing. I will apply the same formula in my writing (it can be research paper, email, text message) onward.
Lately, I’ve been valuing the Learning Module. The content of the Learning Module is very helpful to the major writings, it provides a lot of information and links that can help us to go through the assignment. At the beginning of the semester, it was a bit tedious doing it, but eventually when I took the enough time to read the steps, I began to read it carefully and I could do the process writing much better.
The learning model was new and challenging at first, with lengthy readings. To me, it was a bit overwhelming at first, but then I got used to it. However, it was informative for our major writings, and I learn so much from it. The readings were fascinating, with good things to know and learn about our society. I thought data analytics was very cool for an English Literature class; it was not boring.
I value using data in my writing because it is beneficial in pursuing the objective of my writings. It also helps with my research writing to provide evidence, and I value it because it really helps me be a better writer.
I valued the learning module aspect because i feel like it was extremely effective in reflecting on the work being done as i felt the learning modules really guided me towards the major assignments (papers) i found myself reflecting back to those lessons and using them to my advantage to apply it to my papers. I believe it was also beneficial for the online learning experience because it allowed us to connect in class and on our own time providing a presentation application to our work. I felt like this learning platform with the modules was structured, organized i really appreciated how i could go back into the course schedule to refresh my memory on each lesson/task we learned guiding me throughout each writing process.
I feel like the learning modules really helped with our assignments this semester. It was a nice way to learn more about writing and things to look for and such. I would look back on them sometimes throughout an assignment to help me. I also loved learning on discord. I’ve already been using discord for like 2-3 years now and I didn’t think you could teach a class on it but it was very well organized and it was kind of easier to get feedback from other students and the professor as well. The learning modules really opened up my eyes on the different ways data can be used in a paper to reflect your writing.
I would like to value using data in writing because it would give stronger support than citing an article as the evidence. Based on the data, I would be able to make more extensions on the main idea. For example, the Data-Driven White Paper guided me to analyze the main data set and develop connections with various articles and studies. In such a way, the paper would be more persuasive.
The learning model is a new teaching method to me. On one hand, I felt it was challenging and long to read at the beginning, however, it turned out guidance that was easy to follow. The best thing I value for the learning model is that it breaks a goal into several steps to lead the participant toward success, making the routine less frustrating.
I gained a lot of value from the major data driven assignments. I am more comfortable analyzing novel datasets. I feel more capable of asking relevant questions about novel datasets, cleaning data-sets, filtering data sets, extracting meaningful relationships within datasets and including them in formal written documents. I feel more conformable finding, engaging with, and performing calculations on large datasets. I also feel more comfortable locating and engaging with academic writing within peer reviewed journals and other relevant secondary sources in relation to my overall data driven analysis.
Learning module 10 had a focus on getting prepared for the final projects. It had us outline what our plan is each day and the ideas we might have including finding an impacting image with text and learning from it. I found this very valuable because it pushed us to write down what our plan is and keep us on track.
